had a teach-in / writing prompt about the way in which the events of 9/11 relate to our pride as Mainers and how that day, thirteen years ago, shook us not only as Americans but also as Mainers
wrote to the prompt, "How did 9/11 starting in Maine shake us as Americans, but particularly as Mainers?"
had a quick discussion about how the terrorist act starting in our humble, trustworthy, respectful state was a gut punch
tied this lesson to the importance of having high standards of behavior in our classroom environment, at all times, as a way of being trustworthy and honest Mainers/Americans
We then **hammered** through the following:
on page 6, please use #1 as a prompt: Think of some examples of what patriotism means to you. < we discussed this
go back over the entire written work on pages 6-7: A Cause Greater Than Self, looking for exemplification of patriotism
write out your answer to #2 on this same page (6). NOTE: the question your examples should answer is: What are examples of patriots or patriotism?
answer #3 on page 7. This can be a written piece, an illustration, or a combination of both. I have left paper and markers for you to use.
Homework:
write the prompt on the bottom of page #7
study all the vocabulary we've worked on thus far (academic vocabulary, literary terms, and any of the serendipitous vocabulary that I've written on the board)
finish any of the work you did not turn in at the end of class
