I received two emails about the mid-terms, so I thought I'd share the questions and answers here.
I will also email this link to everyone so that folks are aware of it. Please feel free to share it via social media to the four-ish students we have who do not have standard Internet access (in case their smartphones can pick this up, via Twitter or FB...).
Q: I don't mean to bother you during the long weekend, but I was wondering if you could go over social commentary again. I just need a refresher to make my note cards and map out my note for the essay.
Thank you for your time:)

A: No prob, B.G. Always feel free to ask me... It's my responsibility to limit my work hours. It's also my responsibility to set you all up for success.
So... social commentary: an expression of an opinion with the goal of promoting change by appealing to a sense of justice
I've attached an image that might help. If you look at the attached cartoon (look below), and you tilt your head, you'll notice that the duck turns into a rabbit. In other words, we see what we want to see, depending on our perspectives.
You can relate this to religion, politics, school consolidation, music - everything.
Another example of social commentary would these following movies:
I hope this helps!

Q: Hey Mrs.Huish, How are you doing? Are you enjoying your MLK day? I was just curious about the mid term essay and need some clarification. Can we use anything from the crucible? Thanks.
A: Hope you're doing well, too, Mr. D.!
You may use anything and everything that brings social commentary to The American Dream. And... the social commentary can be positive, negative, or mixed.
Great question, kiddo.
:)
Q: One more thing, can we bring a reference page to class? Like a song name, or a poem title?
A: Absolutely!
Throw all of your references through EasyBib (MLA), save the page, and print it.
Or... you may do the same thing with the Bedford St. Martin page.
You do NOT have to do a works cited page.
We're not going to obsess about works cited pages until S2.
Right now? Just header formatting and embedded citations.
:) Mrs. H.
ALSO: Please write down the entire citation in your notes... I am not interested in assessing your ability to memorize excerpts but in your ability to analyze them, in relation to a Big Idea (such as, The American Dream).
