- Clean up, making sure we know how to use the SOAPSTone strategy - used with the Studs Terkel interview of UFW activist Robert Acuna (with support), then independently on the William Zinsser article The Right to Fail.
Homework:
- Pre-test on the following terms: hypothesis, hypothesize, synthesis, synthesize, defend, challenge, qualify (this includes a flipped lesson, just in case you missed the class in which we went over these or you need to refresh yourself on them).
- quickwrite answering EA2’s central question
- figure out from your quick write if you are a defender, challenger, or qualifier of the America's continued provision of access to The American Dream.
- research for “golden nuggets” of textual evidence to use in your argument essay - I have thirteen pre-screened resources HERE
On Tuesday, we'll do research and draft our Embedded Assessments. At the end of class, I will conduct an Academic Initiative check to see how much progress has happened for: the quickwrite and beginning research. You will have seventy minutes of class time to start on this Embedded Assessment, so there should be obvious progress and the beginning of substantial research. More than just light notes....
It would be great if you could do some pre-research before you arrive on Tuesday.

Your entire class period will be used for researching resources for Embedded Assessment #2: Synthesizing the American Dream (here are some resources for this essay that I put together last year)
I have given the substitute copies of both the empty SOAPSTone template and the one with the driving questions for each section.
A big, blown-up photo of this assessment's central question
