We only have seven Green days in November. What's even stranger? We only have seven Green days in December, too (technically eight, but one is an Early Release Day). We need to MOVE AND GROOVE!
Reminders of upcoming important dates:
- Here are all the dates that we will see each other between now and when your American Dream novel is due:- November 4 & 6
- November 13
- November 17, 19, 21
- November 25

- I will be doing a reading / annotating check on November 13, 2014. Please remember that I cannot see your annotations if you haven't put thoughts on paper. You may do this on actual paper, on Post-Its at specific plot points, or through a document on your computer. Bottom line? If I need you there, explaining it to me, it's not annotation.
- You must also have five discussion questions for a literary Socratic Seminar submitted to me by Monday November 17, 2014.
- You must have your American Dream novel read and annotated by December 2.
Be prepared for the amount of work outside of class to increase a bit in volume, but not in intensity.
November 4, 2014
Lesson Plan
- Deconstructing the Activity 1.8 prompt > making sure you understand each element
- Small group discussion of the images in Hughes's poem.
- Sharing the groups' findings about the important imagery of the poem.
- Whole class brainstorming of events since the students were young. What images from this time period are iconic? Why are they iconic?
- Discussion of the importance of Iwo Jima in the Pacific Theater of WWII.- 4Green had some work time to finish homework, so they asked if they could also get a head-start by joining the new English 11 CP Google classroom. If you email me, I'll provide you with the code. :)

Homework due on November 6, 2014:
- Complete the following parts of Activity 1.8: #7 & #8. Please do NOT print your image, as we will upload them to a Google Classroom that we'll all join on Thursday.
- Be prepared to share your image, all the pertinent MLA information, as well as YOUR perspective (the most interesting part, in my opinion...) on why the image is iconic.- (Who created the image? What does the image show? When was the image captured? Where was the image captured? Why is the image iconic? How was the image capture?)

- Read and do light annotations on Activity 1.9 and 1.10
- Keep reading and annotating your American Dream novel, being aware that the discussion questions for it are due on November 17 and that the Socratic Seminar will begin on December 2.
On November 6, 2014, we'll be:
Sharing our images and writing about said images on our new Google Classroom for English 11 CP. The activity will be named Gallery of America. Please let me know if you are not able to access a computer for this activity, as I will have to do a work-around.
Starting 1.9.
