Sorry I cannot be here today. In a tough spot...

The work and learning **can** continue!

Please do the following in class so you can have a weekend free from English homework:

read and do light annotating on Activities 1.6 and 1.7. Do not do any of the questions, graphic organizers, etc., as we will work on them together, in class.
finish your NoRedInk pre-test (note that it is a pre-test, and so the score you earn will not be going into the grade book) - our class code is dawh7vff
if you have not finished it, or you're not thrilled with it, finish / revise your Timed Writing prompt that was due for today's class. Make sure it's shared with me on my **Google Share** account (ahernhuish@rsu73.com).

Here are our Learning Targets for the week:

from Activity 1.5 - Identify the most significant and relevant details from a larger group; Analyze the relationship between tone and how a work is structured.
from Activity 1.6 - Generate an objective summary, selecting key textual details; Analyze the use of definition strategies in order to apply those strategies

SAT Question of the Day, every day
print and pass in your Quack pre-tests that are due at the beginning of class on September 29, 2014.
- NOTE: Pre-tests, so they DO NOT go in the grade book
re-teach on how to deconstruct a prompt
- using the one on p. 11 - Activity 1.3 - many of you did not seem to know how to answer this prompt)
finish Activity 1.5 >
- prompt writing: What does it mean to be an American?
  - (save as period_name_Act1.5_Amer)
- discussion about personal reactions to the piece: America and I
- annotations,
- Timed Writing
- sentence changes in your Timed Writing, and
  - Timed Writing should go in Google Docs with the naming structure of class_period_name_activity_1.5.
  - Share it to my share address: ahernhuish@rsu73.com (finish this for homework, due before the class start on _______, 2014)
- the graphic organizer on p. 25.

Goals for the week, in addition to the Springboard work:

make sure all work is passed in (I will be responsible for reminding, collecting, organizing, etc.)

Homework:

Due September 29, 2014: Quack #1 Pre-test
Due October 1, 2014: do some background reading about Russia at the end of the 19th Century / beginning of the 20th Century - economically, politically, etc.
Due Tuesday October 7: set yourself up with a noredink account and take the pre-test
Due October 3, timed writing prompt from Activity 1.5
Due October 7, light annotations on Activity 1.6 and Activity 1.7
