Evidence of Learning - Students will illustrate their understanding of the key people, key ideas, key quotes, and big idea from Ch. 5 on their quiz.
Tuesday -
Learning Target - When students leave my classroom, they will have worked on crafting their expertise essay by developing two 'snapshot' moments for their narrative.
Classroom Activities - Students will have a writer's workshop on Drive as they develop their snapshots. Students will also take a quiz on Ch. 6 and begin reading Ch. 7.
Homework - Develop two snapshot moments around their final expertise rough draft and finish reading Ch. 7.
Evidence of Learning - Students will apply what they have learned so far about descriptive writing (show instead of tell, use key details, hit the senses, and show through dialogue and thoughts) in their two snapshot moments of their expertise essays. Students will also illustrate their understanding of the key people, key ideas, key quotes, and big idea from Ch. 6 on their quiz.
Wednesday - LINC
Learning Target - When students leave my classroom, they will have worked on developing their expertise essay into a rough draft by building narrative elements around their two snapshot moments. Students will also have shared their big take aways from Ch. 7 in class discussion and a Kahoot.
Classroom Activities - Students will have a final work day to develop their expertise essay. Thursday will be a peer editing day. Students will take a quiz on Ch. 7. Students will read Ch. 8 and complete the guide.
Homework - Students will decide between their rite of passage or expertise essays to bring in tomorrow for peer revision. Students will finish reading Ch. 8 and take a quiz on Thursday.
Evidence of Learning - Students will show what they have learned about building an effective narrative (an engaging intro, using action to create suspense, using thoughts to show reflection) in their draft for peer revision on Thursday. Students will also illustrate their understanding of the key people, key ideas, key quotes, and big idea from Ch. 8 on their quiz.
Thursday -
Learning Target - When students leave my classroom, they will have peer editing their narrative draft and taken a quiz on Ch. 8.
Classroom Activities - Students will work in small groups peer editing their second drafts (either their rite of passage or their expertise essay). Students will also read Ch. 9 for Friday and take a quiz on it.
Homework - Develop final draft of theme #2 (personal narrative)
Evidence of Learning - Students will show what they have learned about building an effective narrative (an engaging intro, using action to create suspense, using thoughts to show reflection) in their draft for peer revision on Thursday. Students will also illustrate their understanding of the key people, key ideas, key quotes, and big idea from Ch. 9 on their quiz.
Friday -
Learning Target - When students leave my classroom, they will have submitted their final draft of theme #2 (personal narrative). They will also illustrate their understanding of the key people, key ideas, and the big takeaway from Ch. 9 on a quiz.
Classroom Activities - Submit theme #2 (final draft). Quiz on Ch. 9. Read Ch. 10 and 11 for Monday.
Homework - Final "Element" test review shared on Drive. Finish reading the book.
Evidence of Learning - Students will illustrate their understanding of the key people, key ideas, big takeaways, important quotes, and key questions from The Element on a shared final test review. Then students will do the same thing on the final test of The Element next week.
