Monday - April 17
Learning Target - Students will begin analyzing the film Little Miss Sunshine for theme (family, beauty, or innocence) and film technique (symbolism, acting, imagery, dialogue, lighting, or music).
Classroom Activities - Watch the film - Scenes to focus on: opening shot of Olive; first dinner scene; "ala-mode" breakfast; and van breaking down.
Homework - Practice analysis of a scene.
Evidence of Learning - Students will discuss how each scene works and eventually write a college level film analysis.

Classroom Activities - Re-watch key scenes - Scenes to focus on: review the first dinner scene and contrast that with how the family rallies around Olive during her dance routine.
Homework - Craft a rough draft (final draft due Friday).
Evidence of Learning - Students will discuss how each scene works and eventually write a college level film analysis.
Thursday - April 20
Learning Target - Students will craft a rough draft of the film analysis: intro, summary, theme, film technique, and conclusion.
Classroom Activities - Work time.
Homework - Craft a rough draft (final draft due Friday).
Evidence of Learning - Students will produce a final draft for Friday.
Friday - April 21
Learning Target - Students will read "The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber" and analyze it for theme and plot.
Classroom Activities - Free reading/work time.
Homework - Begin reading their novels and finish reading "Macomber." Quiz on Monday.
Evidence of Learning - Students will demonstrate their knowledge of "Macomber" on the reading quiz and then in a class discussion and a short analytical essay concerning the conclusion.
