Check for understanding for vital knowledge: What is the dip? Identify the five major parts. What is a cul-de-sac? What is a cliff?
Learning Target -
Students will -
* submit theme #2 (narrative).
* be able to answer the following questions -
** why is the Dip your best friend?
** why is the Dip the reason you are here?
** why does the real success go to those who obsess?
** what are some reason you might fail to become "best in the world" (or survive the dip)?
** why is average for losers?
Classroom Tasks -

Tuesday - Feb. 23
Check for understanding for vital knowledge: Why (in terms of work, college, extra curriculars, or high school) is the Dip your best friend? Explain the metaphor Godin uses in the section "The Thing About the Wind" and how it relates to the dip.
Learning Target -
Students will -
* Have read The Dip, most recently pages 59-80.
* Share the three responses they wrote.
* Conduct a student led discussion based off their responses.
* Connect Adam Kreek's TEDx Talk on the "happy fail" to "leaning" into the Dip.
Classroom Tasks -
* We will enter into a graded in-depth discussion of what we have reading on pages 59-80.
** Especially in fourth block, an open question and answer period to resolve any issues related to The Dip.
Homework -
* Craft a narrative around one of the following topics
1. Write a narrative about a time you quit something because the dip facing you wasn't worth it.
2. Write a narrative about a time you were close to quitting but you "leaned" into the dip, and it made all the difference.
Evidence of Learning - Students will demonstrate what they learned through large group discussion, through their short essays responses, and through the development of a rough drafts of the narrative about quitting.
Wednesday - Feb. 24
Check for understanding for vital knowledge: Explain why Godin states "If you're not going to get to #1, you might as well quit right now." What does this have to do with the Dip?
Learning Target -

* Conduct a final discussion related to any things left unresolved for The Dip.
* continue to craft their quitting narrative (theme #3)
Classroom Tasks -

Evidence of Learning - Students will demonstrate what they learned through large group discussion and by producing a rough draft to share in class tomorrow.
Thursday - Feb. 25
Check for understanding for vital knowledge: Quitting is only what losers do. Refute or defend that based on what we have read in The Dip. Be sure to cite specific examples or strategies Godin suggests.
Learning Target -

Evidence of Learning - Students will illustrate what they learned about The Dip on the final quiz and connect the main ideas to a narrative (theme #3), which will be due on Friday.
Friday - Feb. 26
Check for understanding for vital knowledge: Why is having an engaging intro vital to your how-to essay? What are transitions and how are they used in a how-to essay? What topic will your first how to draft be on?
Learning Target -
Students will -
* submit theme #3 (quitting narrative).
* preview out next theme (a how-to expository essay).
