Week 10 - November 7-11
Monday
Learning Target - Students will recall the various roles of the scavengers in Ch. 1 of The Ghost Map and analyze how they function in Victorian Society and apply their function to the overall point of the book.
Classroom Activities - Students take a quiz on Ch. 1 and have a short discussion recalling the various functions of the scavengers while through notes and discussion we analyze the purpose they served (a human generated waster-recycling system) and apply that to the overall point of the book (how vital it is to recycle human and animal generated waste and keep it from our drinking water). We will then begin watching the documentary Clean by Steven Johnson.
Homework - Read chapter 2 and complete the guide.
Evidence of Learning - Students will illustrate their understanding of the target via their chapter guides, the quiz, discussion, and the assignment related to the video.
Tuesday
Learning Target - Students will recall the various roles of the Henry Whitehead in Ch. 2 of The Ghost Map and analyze how he functions in Victorian Society and apply his function to the overall point of the book.
Classroom Activities - Students take a quiz on Ch. 2 and have a short discussion recalling the various functions of Whitehead (while recalling the functions of the scavengers from Monday) while through notes and discussion we analyze the purpose her served (as a clergy man and skeptic) and apply that to the overall point of the book (how innovations don't happen in isolation and that you always need someone to play devil's advocate, which is the role Whitehead serves). We will then finish watching the documentary Clean by Steven Johnson.
Homework - Read chapter 3 and complete the guide.
Evidence of Learning - Students will illustrate their understanding of the target via their chapter guides, the quiz, discussion, and the assignment related to the video.

Classroom Activities - Students take a quiz on Ch. 3 and have a short discussion recalling the various functions of Whitehead (while recalling the functions of the scavengers from Monday and Whitehead from Tuesday) while through notes and discussion we analyze the purpose Snow served (as a doctor and scientist and skeptic) and apply that to the overall point of the book (how science must combat traditional thinking and superstition).
Homework - Read chapter 4 and complete the guide.
Evidence of Learning - Students will illustrate their understanding of the target via their chapter guides, the quiz, discussion, and the assignment related to the video.

Homework - Read chapter 5 and complete the guide.
Evidence of Learning - Students will illustrate their understanding of the target via their chapter guides, the quiz, discussion, and the assignment related to the video.

Learning Target - Students will recall the various roles of the Edwin Chadwick in Ch. 5 of The Ghost Map and analyze how he functions in Victorian Society and apply his function to the overall point of the book.
Classroom Activities - Students take a quiz on Ch. 5 and have a short discussion recalling the various functions of Whitehead (while recalling the functions of the scavengers from Monday and Whitehead from Tuesday and Snow from Wednesday and Farr from Thursday) while through notes and discussion we analyze the purpose Chadwick served (as public health leader, he sought to help the poor and minorities, but as a miasmatist, his theories were wrong and though he seeked to help others, he unwittingly helped thousands die) and apply that to the overall point of the book (how superstition limits science and innovation when it fails to take evidence into account).
Homework - Read chapter 6 and complete the guide.
Evidence of Learning - Students will illustrate their understanding of the target via their chapter guides, the quiz, discussion, and the assignment related to the video.
