Week 5
Monday (3.2)
Learning Target:
When I leave Mr. Reynolds' room, I will have reviewed the key people and ideas from The Element, chapters six and seven. I will have engaged in a discussion of take aways from those chapters. Then I will take notes on the key people and ideas from Ch. 8 ("Somebody Help Me"). Then I will have been given class time to read Ch. 8, which will be due on Tuesday. I will also have submitted a rough draft of theme #3 (how to).
Classroom Tasks:
Students will discuss the main take aways from Ch. 6 and 7. Then we will outline and take notes on the key people and ideas from each chapter. Students will do the same for Ch. 8, which they will have to read for tomorrow. Finally, students will peer edit theme #3 (how to) and look at a peer sample paper.
Homework:
Read Ch. 8 of The Element and revise theme #3.
Evidence:
Students will discuss their take aways. Students will then take notes. Students will also submit a rough draft of theme #3 (a how to).
Tuesday (3.3)
Learning Target:
When I leave Mr. Reynolds' room, I will read Ch. 8 of The Element and taken a short quiz on it. I will then engage in a brief discussion of the key people and ideas from the chapter. I will also begin thinking about what book to select from our Novels list, which we will begin reading next week.
Classroom Tasks:
Students will partake in a discussion on Ch. 8. Then brainstorm possible books from the Novels list. Finally, students will have time to revise theme #3 (due Wednesday) and be introduced to theme #4 (braided essay on a passion) and their them #5 (novel analysis). Students will be given their rubric for theme #3 so they can align it to my specifications.
Homework:
Students will finish revising theme #3 and read Ch. 9.
Evidence:
Students will submit the final draft of theme #3 on Wednesday.
Wednesday (3.4)
Learning Target:
When I leave Mr. Reynolds' class, I will have read Ch. 9 of The Element and taken part in a brief discussion and reaction to it. I will also have submitted my theme #3 (how to). I will also have been introduced to the topic for theme #4 (a braided essay on a passion) and begun brainstorming topics related to it. I will also be ready to share with Mr. Reynolds over break what novel I have selected from the Novels list.
Classroom Tasks:
Students discuss Ch. 9. They will share ideas and topics for theme #3 and take notes on what a braided essay is. We will discussion passion and how it relates to this essay.
Homework:
Finish reading The Element (chapters 10 and 11). Students will look at the review guide shared over break via Drive. The final test will be Wednesday. Students will select their novel from the novels list to read next. Finally, students will compose a rough draft for theme #4 (personal history related to their passion).
Evidence:
Students will submit theme #3 (how to). They will discuss reactions to Ch. 9.
