Work time on finishing up Theme #5 (mental health survival guide)
Wednesday (LINC) - (Dec. 6)
Learning Target - When students leave class, they will have submitted their theme #5 (mental health survival guide) and been introduced to APA format by writing two very brief APA style papers based off terms they were assigned in class.
Classroom Activities - Students will have work time to research and format their APA papers.
Homework - Finish first two APA papers and submit.
Evidence of Learning - Students will meet the learning target with the submission of their two APA papers.
Thursday (Dec. 7) - "The Roseto Mystery" and "The Matthew Effect"
Learning Target - When students leave class, they will have been introduced to next book, Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell.
Key concepts - What is an outlier? What factors lead to success? What do you do if factors that lead to success are simply out of your control? What factors really lead to success though?
Classroom Activities - Classroom discussion and time to read intro "The Roseto Mystery."
Homework - Read Ch. 1 "The Matthew Effect" and be ready to discuss it in class tomorrow. Students will tie it in to the key concepts outlined above.
Evidence of Learning - Through discussion and a reading check quiz, students will show their understanding of the importance your birthday has in your success.
Friday (Dec. 8) - "The 10,000 Hour Rule"
Learning Target - When students leave class, they will have been introduced to next book, Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell.
Key concepts - What is an outlier? What factors lead to success? What do you do if factors that lead to success are simply out of your control? What factors really lead to success though?
Classroom Activities - Quiz on Ch. 1, discussion of success and how it relates to Ch. 1. Students will have time to read Ch. 2 "The 10,000 Hour Rule." Connect this to Cal Newport's concept of "Deliberate Practice" from So Good They Can't Ignore You.
Homework - Read Ch. 2 and be ready for a quiz on Monday.
Evidence of Learning - Through discussion and a reading check quiz, students will show their understanding of the importance of experience, namely gaining 10,000 hours of experience relates to success.
