Learning Target:
When I leave Mr. Reynolds' room, I will have been introduced to the literature phase of College Comp 1, namely elements of plot, theme, and symbolism. We will analyze this through Hemingway's "Baby Shoes" and "The Chaser." We will read "The Lottery" and complete reader response starters for Tuesday. I will also have turn in essay 4.1 (personal history)
Classroom Tasks:
Students discuss and take notes on elements of short stories. Class discussion of "Baby Shoes" and "The Chaser." Students will have some class time to read "The Lottery" due tomorrow.

Learning Target:
When I leave Mr. Reynolds' room, I will have taken a quiz on "The Lottery," highlighting elements of plot, theme, and symbolism. I will have taken part in an in depth discussion of how those elements are evident in "The Lottery." Next, I will be introduced to lit theory via a Keynote.
Classroom Tasks:
Students will discuss "The Lottery" and be introduced to lit theory via a Keynote. Assign "Doe Season" as homework. Complete the reading guide with the story.
Homework:
Read "Doe Season" and complete the reading guide. Quiz on Wednesday.
Evidence:
Students will partake in a discussion, turn in their reading guide, and take a quiz on "Doe Season."
Wednesday (3.11)
Learning Target:
When I leave Mr. Reynolds' class, I will have discussed the story "Doe Season" in depth for literary elements and connect it to the lit theory examples we saw yesterday. I will have finished the Keynote on lit theory. I will read "The Storm" for Thursday. Turn in 4.2 (how to)
Classroom Tasks:
Keynote and notes on literary theory. Discuss elements as they relate to "Doe Season." Take a quiz on the story and turn in reading guide.
Homework:
Read "The Storm" and complete the guide. Assign 4.3 (best moment) and 4.4 (epiphany moment)
Evidence:
Quiz on "The Storm" and turn in the guide. Students will perform a mock trial with the last half of the block on Thursday.
Thursday (3.12)
Learning Target:
When I leave Mr. Reynolds' class, I will have discussed "The Storm" and performed a mock trial analyzing whether Janet imagined everything or if Ben is really a killer. I will also have partaken in a reader response lesson based on the very short story "A Lot to Learn." I will then be introduced and begin reading "Listen to the End." Turn in draft for 4.3 (best moment)
Classroom Tasks:
Students will hold a mock trial for the characters of "The Storm." Discuss "A Lot to Learn" and then read "Listen to the End" for Monday.
Homework:
No homework. Prepare for the final test on The Element.
Evidence:
Students will be evaluated on their evidence in the mock trial for the characters of "The Storm." Students will demonstrate their understanding of The Element on the final exam Friday.
Friday (3.13)

When I leave Mr. Reynolds' class, I will have taken the final exam for The Element.
Classroom Tasks:
Take the test. Share 4.4 (epiphany moment).
Homework:
Read "Listen to the End" and complete reading response starters. I will also have selected my first novel to read. Theme #4 (braided essay) will be due on Tuesday. We will spend Monday discussing how to braid the essay together.
Evidence:
The final exam on The Element.
