Week 7 - October 17-19
Monday
Learning Target - Students will complete a review exercise for their upcoming final test on The Element. Each table will be able to come up with their own test questions for the following categories
* Important people
* Key ideas
* Important quotes
Classroom Activities - Work time on review activity and to develop their rite of passage OR their expertise essay.
Homework - Finish review activity and develop their rite of passage OR their expertise essay.
Learning Target - Students will illustrate the important people, key ideas, and important quotes from The Element (chapters 1-11) via the review assignment. Students will also illustrate what they have learned about crafting a vivid descriptive essay and an effective narrative in their final drafts for theme #2.
Tuesday
Learning Target - Students will identify they key features and ideas from The Element in a graded discussion. They will address the concepts below.
* What is "the element"?
* How does Robinson define "creativity"?
* How do schools fail to engage students in their 'elements'?
* How is 'flow' related to being in one's element?
* What are the benefits of finding your 'tribe'?
* What are the three barriers we must overcome in finding our elements?
* What factors determine our luck?
* How do mentors help us find our elements?
* When is the optimal time for discovering one's element?
* Must one really choose between making a living or doing what they love?
* How does school fail their students when it comes to helping them discover their passions?
Classroom Activities - Graded discussion.
Homework - Review for final test on The Element and to have a final second draft to revise in class on Wednesday.
Learning Target - Students will illustrate the learning target through the our final graded discussion.
Wednesday - LINC
Learning Target - Students will also illustrate what they have learned about crafting a vivid descriptive essay and an effective narrative in their final drafts for theme #2 during a peer draft day.
Classroom Activities - Work in peer editing groups revising either their rite of passage essay or their expertise essay.
Homework - Final draft of theme #2 is due by 3:30 Friday. Final element test is due by 3:30 on Monday.
Learning Target - Students will meet the learning target by showing what they have learned about the key people, ideas, and quotes from The Element on their final test. Students will meet the learning target regarding their theme #2 through submitting their personal essay drafts.
Thursday and Friday
No school. MEA break.
