Check for understanding for vital knowledge: How is the how-to essay formatted? Why are transitions and an effective intro so vital?
Learning Target -
Students will -
* peer edit theme #3 (narrative on quitting). Final draft due Tuesday.
** Look at past examples of difficulties students face in college (see Adam's response).
Classroom Tasks -
* Students will peer edit theme #3.
* Students will brainstorm ideas for their how to on how to survive college.
* Share a past example via Drive as a model.
Homework -
* Finish Theme #3.
* Find a topic to develop for Theme 4.1 (how to survive college).
Evidence of Learning - Students will share what they learned about writing narratives in their final draft of theme #3.
Tuesday - March 1
Check for understanding for vital knowledge: What is my topic for surviving college? How did I craft an engaging introduction?
Learning Target -
Students will -
* Have a focused idea for 4.1. Students will develop an outline for 4.1 detailing their idea for an intro and their steps.
* Introduce students to The Element.
Classroom Tasks -
* Discuss progress on 4.1.
* Watch Caine's Arcade and discuss it as a way to connect to The Element.
Homework -
1. Share an outline for 4.1.
Evidence of Learning - Students will demonstrate their understanding of 4.1 by creating an outline and sharing it with me.
Wednesday - March 2 - early out
Check for understanding for vital knowledge: What steps did I use to show my how to? How is this not just a persuasive topic?
Learning Target -
Students will -
* be introduced to The Element and discuss why finding one's passion is so vital.
Classroom Tasks -
* Work on developing a final draft of 4.1.
* Assign the first three chapters of The Element.
Homework -
* Finish 4.1 by Friday. Share the final draft on line.
* Read Ch. 1-3 of The Element and complete chapter guides for Monday.
Evidence of Learning - Students will demonstrate what they have learned about how to craft a how to essay via their final draft of theme #4. Students will also show their understanding of the key figures and ideas of the first three chapters of The Element by completing their reading guides by Monday.
Thursday - Parent / Teacher conferences.
Friday - No school.
