Week 3 Second Semester
Feb. 6-10
Monday - Feb. 6
Learning Target - Students will be examine significant errors from theme #1, analyze "Doe Season" for theme and lit theory, and finish the slide show on Lit Theory.
Classroom Activities - Smartboard work on common errors; return theme #1, quiz on "Doe Season" and discussion of the story. Finish slideshow on literary theory.
Homework - Begin writing essay 2.1 (a rite of passage).
Evidence of Learning - Students will identify their errors on the Smartboard and work through fixing them on a shared document; students will discuss their reactions to "Doe Season" and illustrate how they analyzed it on the quiz.
Tuesday- Feb. 7
Learning Target - Students will apply the key elements of narrative to their essay 2.1 in a drafting session.
Classroom Activities - Examine "Time Keeps on Slipping" as an effective rite of passage and discuss. Students will have class time to craft and draft their rite of passage. I will drop in via Drive and give them individual feedback.
Homework - Turn your second draft into a final rough draft of 2-4 pages.
Evidence of Learning - Students will illustrate how effectively they mastered the elements of narrative on their rite of passage drafts.
Wednesday - LINC - Feb. 8 - SUB
Learning Target - Students will apply the effective elements of narrative and a rite of passage to the essay "Under Water" and answer the questions. Students will analyze the story "Cathedral" for theme.
Classroom Activities - read the story and complete the guide.
Homework - Read "Cathedral" and complete reader response starters.
Evidence of Learning - Students will prove what they learned about narrative and theme on the quiz on "Cathedral" and in class discussion.
Thursday - Feb. 9
Learning Target - Students will apply narrative skills to essay 2.2 (an expertise).
Classroom Activities - Discussion of "Cathedral" and quiz. Read sample expertise essays ("Apples" and "What was that total again?") and
Homework - Draft 2.2 into a very rough draft to work on in class tomorrow.
Evidence of Learning - Students will illustrate what they learned about crafting effective narratives on their expertise essay.
Friday - Feb. 10
Learning Target - Students will draft a final rough draft of 2.1 in class and illustrate the effective use of dialogue, thoughts, and description.
Classroom Activities - Drafting day on 2.2. I will drop in via Drive and offer personalized feedback.
Homework - Finish 2.2
Evidence of Learning - Students will illustrate what they learned about crafting effective narratives on their expertise essay.
