Monday -
Learning Target - When students leave my room, they will be introduced to Sir Ken Robinson's The Element. They will be able to answer the questions below from Ch. 1 and 2
* What is Robinson's definition of The Element?
* What does Robinson mean by I get it, I want it, Where is it?
* Why is common sense such an enemy of creativity?
Students will also be able to demonstrate how they applied their descriptive elements from theme #1 to snapshot moments #1 and #2 for essay 2.1 (rite of passage).
Classroom Activities - Quiz on Ch. 1 and 2 of The Element. Graded discussion. Class time to revise theme #2 and build narrative elements around the two snapshots.
Homework - Read Ch. 3 Beyond Imagining and complete the padlet assignment and the guide. Finalize a rough draft of theme 2.1
Evidence of Learning - Students will demonstrate their understanding of the questions in the learning target both through discussion and the in class quiz. Students will also share their snapshots with me to demonstrate that they have applied descriptive elements to the two scenes.
Tuesday -
Learning Target - When students leave my room, they will be further explore Sir Ken Robinson's The Element. They will be able to answer the questions below from Ch. 3
* Who are Faith Ringgold and Richard Feynman and how do they relate to the element?
* How are intelligence and creativity "blood relatives"?
* What are the four features of creativity?
Students will also be able to demonstrate how they applied their descriptive elements from theme #1 to snapshot moments #1 and #2 when they share a rough draft of essay 2.1.
Classroom Activities - Quiz on Ch. 3 (Kahoot) and graded discussion. Students will also share their two examples of creativity on the Padlet board.
Homework - Read Ch. 4-5 for Thursday.
Evidence of Learning - Students will answer the three questions in discussion format and on the in class quiz. Students will also demonstrate their understanding of the narrative format by sharing with me their rough draft 2.1 (rite of passage).
Wednesday - LINC
Learning Target - When students leave my room, they will be introduced to essay 2.2 (an expertise). Students will develop one snap shot that illustrates their expertise.
When students leave my room, they will be further explore Sir Ken Robinson's The Element. They will be able to answer the questions below from Ch. 4-5.
* What does it mean to be "in the zone" and how does this relate to being in your element?
* Who are Ewa Laurance, Aaron Sorkin, and Terence Tao and how do they relate to being in the zone?
* Why is it important to find your tribe and how does this relate to developing your element?
* Who are Don Lipski and Helen Pilcher and how did they find their tribes?
Classroom Activities - Students will work with me on Drive to develop snapshot #1 for their expertise (essay 2.2).
Homework - Read Ch. 4 and 5 of The Element and complete the reading guide. Finish their snapshot moment.
Evidence of Learning - Students will illustrate what they learned about showing vs telling in descriptive essays on snapshot 1 of essay 2.2
Thursday -
Learning Target - When students leave my class they will be able to answer the questions below related to chapters 4 and 5 of The Element (continued from Wednesday, which will mostly be devoted to working on snapshot 1 of essay 2.2).
* What does it mean to be "in the zone" and how does this relate to being in your element?
* Who are Ewa Laurance, Aaron Sorkin, and Terence Tao and how do they relate to being in the zone?
* Why is it important to find your tribe and how does this relate to developing your element?
* Who are Don Lipski and Helen Pilcher and how did they find their tribes?
Classroom Activities - Quiz on Ch. 4 and 5 and discussion of the chapters. Time to read Ch. 6 (What will they Think?)
Homework - Read Ch. 6 and complete the guide. Add a second snapshot moment to essay 2.2.
Evidence of Learning - Students will demonstrate what they know about being in the zone and finding their tribe on the quiz.
Friday -
Learning Target - When students leave my class, they will be able to answer the questions below related to Ch. 6 (What will they Think?) as it relates to The Element.
* What are the specific three barriers to finding your element?
* How did Chuck Close and Paul Caolho relate to overcoming the barriers to their elements?
* What price are you willing to pay to find your element?
Classroom Activities - Students will have in class time to read Ch.7 and 8 for Monday and to construct their rough draft of their expertise essay.
Homework - Read Ch 7 and 8 and have a rough draft of essay 2.2.
Evidence of Learning - Graded discussion and the quiz as well as a rough draft for essay 2.2
