Week 2 - Sept. 11-15
Monday - 9.11
Learning Target - When students leave Mr. Reynolds class, they will be able to define the term "craftsman mindset" and apply it to their own lives and explain why it's vital for them in college and the workforce. Students will also be able to explain the term "career capital" and apply it to others in their lives.
Classroom Activities - Discuss Ch. 4 and 5 of So Good They Can't Ignore You.
Homework - Read chapters 6 and 7 and complete reading assignment or pre-discussion activity. Infographic due Wednesday.
Evidence of Learning - Students will have illustrated the learning target by a short writing assignment in which they personally define "Craftsman Mindset" and "Career Capital" and use an infographic tool to illustrate how it works in their lives.
Tuesday - 9.12
Learning Target - When students leave Mr. Reynolds class, they will be able to explain how Alex Berger and Mike Jackson illustrate the concept of "Career capital."
Classroom Activities - Read and discuss Ch. 6 and 7.
Homework - Work on career capital infographic and exploratory essay. Read Ch. 8
Evidence of Learning - Students will have illustrated the learning target by discussing how Berger and Jackson used career capital to develop work that matters.
Wednesday - 9.13
Learning Target - When students leave Mr. Reynolds class, they will be able to explain in their own words the concept of "The Dream-Job Elixir."
Classroom Activities - Work on infographic and exploratory essay.
Homework - Interview someone who they believe loves their job or has a "dream" job. Then see if their interview relates at all to what Newport purports in SGTCIY.
Evidence of Learning - Students will have share their interview results on Friday.
Thursday - 9.14
Learning Target - When students leave Mr. Reynolds class, they will see how Mr. Zutz personifies the key concepts of "Career Capital" and "the dream job elixir."
Classroom Activities - Discuss concepts with Mr. Zutz.
Homework - Read Ch. 9, 10, and 11 (by group)
Evidence of Learning - Students will be divided into groups for each control trap. In class on Friday, they will explain - briefly - what each control trap is and how they can be avoided. Or if they can be avoided.
Friday - 9.15
Learning Target - When students leave Mr. Reynolds class, they will share the control traps and how to avoid them.
Classroom Activities - Share control traps and finish up infographics and interviews for "dream" job elixir.
Homework - Finish rule #4 and complete reading check assignments.
Evidence of Learning - Students will have illustrated the learning target by completing the reading check assignments (why does Pardis Sabeti have a meaningful life? What is the importance of mission and why do they need career capital? What is the concept of little bets and how do they relate to mission? And finally, how does one market your mission?).
