Learning Target - Students will examine author's craft one last time via "Listen to the End."Â When students leave they will be able to state how the author uses plot, character, allusion, and symbolism to illustrate the story's theme.
Classroom Activities - Review of author's craft via Scary car commercial padlet, "The Persistence of Memory" by Dali, and finally the poem, "A Dream Deferred." We will examine how directors and artists manipulate the reader through their tools. We will review again how authors do this. Then we will apply that to the short story "Listen to the End," which, thematically, is very similar to To Kill a Mockingbird.
Evidence of Learning - Students will illustrate their knowledge of plot, character, allusion, and symbolism as they read the story via sticky-notes. Students will also write a short paragraph stating how the elements reinforce the theme.
