Week 3 Second Semester
Feb. 6-10
Monday - Feb. 6
Learning Target - Students will be able to demonstrate the key features of an effective narrative (dialogue, suspense, climax, reflection, and thoughts) on their second drafts of essay 2.1 (rite of passage).
Classroom Activities - Discussion of effective personal narratives; begin introduction essay 2.2 (an expertise) by brainstorming topics and reading previous examples.
Homework - Begin writing essay 2.2 (an expertise). Have one snapshot moment done for Tuesday.
Evidence of Learning - Students will illustrate their ability to craft an effective narrative by submitting their second draft of essay 2.1.
Tuesday- Feb. 7
Learning Target - Students will be able to demonstrate the key features of an effective narrative (dialogue, suspense, climax, reflection, and thoughts) on their second drafts of essay 2.2 (expertise) by drafting two "snap shot" moments of their narrative.
Classroom Activities - Examine and share snapshots. Continue to examine student and professional examples and analyze them for effectiveness.
Homework - Continue writing essay 2.2 (an expertise). Have a second snapshot moment done for Wednesday.
Evidence of Learning - Students will illustrate their ability to craft an effective narrative by submitting their first snapshot for essay 2.2
Wednesday - LINC - Feb. 8 - SUB
Learning Target - Students will be able to demonstrate the key features of an effective narrative (dialogue, suspense, climax, reflection, and thoughts) on their second drafts of essay 2.2 (expertise) by drafting two "snap shot" moments of their narrative.
Classroom Activities - Examine and share second snapshots. Talk about joining them in an effective narrative. Work time.
Homework - Develop a full narrative around their first two snapshots for essay 2.2.
Evidence of Learning - Students will have a 4 page rough draft to share for Thursday.
Thursday - Feb. 9
Learning Target - Students will be introduced to what an "element" is as they begin reading Ken Robinson's The Element.
Classroom Activities - Discussion of the importance of following your passion. Offer brief feedback on essay 2.2.
Homework - Read the first 3 chapters of The Element: "The Element," "Think Differently," and "Beyond Imagining" and complete the homework assignments here: TED Ed assignment; Ch. 1; Ch. 2; and Ch. 3.
Evidence of Learning - Students will illustrate their ability to craft an effective narrative by submitting their 4 page rough draft of essay 2.2. Students will illustrate their understanding of "the element" and the importance of passion by reading the first three chapters and completing the assignments.
Friday - No School. Teacher In-Service
