4:1 ᎠᏎᏃ ᎤᎶᏞᏍᏔᏅᎯ ᎡᏍᎦ ᎤᏰᎸᏁ ᏦᎾ, ᎠᎴ ᎾᏍᎩ ᎤᏣᏘ ᎤᏔᎳᏬᏎᎢ.
4:1 aseno ulotlestanvhi esga uyelvne Tsona, ale nasgi utsati utalawosei.
4:1 But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was angry.

4:2 He prayed to YHWH, and said, "Please, YHWH, wasn't this what I said when I was still in my own country? Therefore I hurried to flee to Tarshish, for I knew that you are a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness, and you relent of doing harm.
4:3 ᎾᏍᎩᏃ ᎿᏉ Ᏺ, ᏱᎰᏩ, ᎬᏍᏗᏰᏗᎭ ᎠᏴ ᎬᏅᎢ ᏒᏍᎩᎩᏏᏉ; ᎤᏩᏰᏃ ᎣᏏ ᏯᎩᏲᎱᏒ ᏒᏍᎦᏉ ᎨᎢ ᏱᎩ.
4:3 nasgino hnaquo yo, Yihowa, gvsdiyediha ayv gvnvi svsgigisiquo; uwayeno osi yagiyohusv svsgaquo gei yigi.
4:3 Therefore now, YHWH, I beg you, take my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live."
4:4 ᎿᏉᏃ ᏱᎰᏩ ᎾᏍᎩ ᎯᎠ ᏄᏪᏎᎢ, ᎣᏏᏍᎪ ᎿᏛᏁ ᏥᏣᏔᎳᏬᏍᎦ?
4:4 hnaquono Yihowa nasgi hia nuwesei, “osisgo hnadvne tsitsatalawosga?”
4:4 YHWH said, "Is it right for you to be angry?"
4:5 ᎾᏍᎩᏃ ᎢᏳᏍᎦᎫᎲ ᏭᎮᎪᏙ ᏦᎾ, ᎠᎴ ᎦᏚᎲᎢᏗᎧᎵᎬ ᎢᏗᏢᎤᏪᏁᎢ, ᎠᎴ ᎾᎿ ᎤᏓᏬᏓᏝᏁᎴᎢ, ᎠᎴ ᎾᏍᎩ ᎭᏫᏂᏗᏢ ᎤᏪᏁ ᎤᏓᏩᏗᏍᏙᏛᎢ, ᎬᏂ ᎬᏩᎪᏩᏛᏗ ᏱᎮᎵᏍᏔᏅ ᎾᏍᎩ ᎦᏚᎲᎢ ᏅᏓᏳᎵᏍᏓᏁᎵᏒᎢ.

4:5 Then Jonah went out of the city, and sat on the east side of the city, and there made himself a booth, and sat under it in the shade, until he might see what would become of the city.
4:6 ᎦᎸᎾᏃ ᏅᏛᏅᎢᏍᏓᏁᎴ ᏱᎰᏩ ᎤᏁᎳᏅᎯ ᎠᎴ ᏦᎾ ᏅᎹᏅ ᎦᎸᎳᏗᏢ ᎤᏖᎸᎳᏗᏓᏍᏗ ᏄᏩᏁᎳᎢ. ᎾᏍᎩ ᎠᏍᎪᎵ ᎦᎸᎳᏗᏟ ᏅᏓᏩᏗᏍᏗᏍᎩ ᎢᏳᎵᏍᏙᏗᏱ, ᎾᏍᎩ ᎤᏪᎵᎯᏍᎬ ᎤᎦᏓᎴᏍᏗᏱ; ᎾᏍᎩᏃ ᎦᎸᎾ ᏅᎵᏍᏙᏔᏁ ᎤᎵᎮᎵᏍᏗᏳ ᏅᏓᏅᏓᏕ ᏦᎾ.

4:6 YHWH God prepared a vine, and made it to come up over Jonah, that it might be a shade over his head, to deliver him from his discomfort. So Jonah was exceedingly glad because of the vine.
4:7 ᎠᏎᏃ ᏧᏍᎪᏯ ᎢᎤᏛᏅ ᎢᏍᏔᏁ ᎤᏁᎳᏅᎯ ᎤᎩᏨᏓ ᎿᏉ ᎢᎦ ᎤᏛᎿ ᏑᎾᎴ, ᎠᎴ ᎾᏍᎩ ᎦᎸᎾ ᎫᎦᏘᎸᏎ ᎾᏍᎩᏃ ᎢᏳᏍᏗ ᎤᏩᏴᏎᎢ.

4:7 But God prepared a worm at dawn the next day, and it chewed on the vine, so that it withered.
4:8 ᎠᎴ ᎾᏍᎩ ᎮᎵᏍᏔᏁ, ᏅᏙ ᎤᎧᎸᏣ, ᎾᏍᎩ ᏗᎧᎸᎬ ᎢᏗᏢ ᎠᏍᏓᏴ ᏅᏓᏳᏃᎸᏗ ᏅᏩᏁᎴ ᎤᏁᎳᏅᎯ; ᏦᎾ ᎠᏍᎪᎵ ᎤᎦᎵᏎ ᎤᏗᎴᎩ ᏅᏙ; ᎾᏍᎩ ᎢᏳᏍ ᎤᎸᏕᎯᎮᎢ, ᎠᎴ ᎯᎠ ᏅᏪᏎᎢ, ᎤᏟ ᎣᏏ ᎠᎩᎵᎱᎯᏍᏗᏱ ᎠᏃ ᎾᏍᎩ ᏱᎨᎠ

4:8 It happened, when the sun arose, that God prepared a sultry east wind; and the sun beat on Jonah's head, so that he fainted, and requested for himself that he might die, and said, "It is better for me to die than to live."
4:9 ᏦᎾᏃ ᎯᎠ ᏄᏪᏎᎴ ᎤᎯᎳᏅᎯ, ᎦᎸᎾ ᏥᏳᏳᎥᏍᎦ ᎣᏏᏉᏍᎪᎿᏛᏁᎭ? ᎯᎠᏃ ᏂᎤᏪᏎᎢ, ᎣᏏ ᏂᎦᏛᏁ ᏣᏋᏳᎦ ᎠᎩᏲᎱᎯᏍᏗ ᎬᏗᏍᎩ
4:9 tsonano hia nuwesele uhilanvhi, galvna tsiyuyuvsga osigwosgohnadvneha? hiano niuwesei, osi nigadvne tsagwvyuga agiyohuhisdi gvdisgi
4:9 God said to Jonah, "Is it right for you to be angry about the vine?" He said, "I am right to be angry, even to death."
4:10 ᏱᎰᏩᏃ ᎯᎠ ᏅᏪᏎᎴᎢ, ᏂᎯ ᎦᎸᎾ ᎢᎯᏯᏙᎵᎦ ᎾᏍᎩ ᏣᎵᏂᏁᎸᎯ ᏂᎨᏒᎾ, ᎾᏍᏉ ᎤᏛᎯᏍᏗᏱ ᏂᏨᏂᏌᏅᎾ ᏏᎡᏃᏱᏉ ᏧᏛᏒᎩ, ᎠᎴ ᏏᎡᏃᏱᏉ ᏧᎿᏍᎬᏦᏅᎩ.
4:10 Yihowano hia nvweselei, nihi galvna ihiyadoliga nasgi tsalininelvhi nigesvna, nasgwo udvhisdiyi nitsvnisanvna sienoyigwo tsudvsvgi, ale sienoyigwo tsuhnasgvtsonvgi.
4:10 YHWH said, "You have been concerned for the vine, for which you have not labored, neither made it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night.
4:11 ᏝᏍᎪᏃ ᏥᏍᏙᎵᏍᏗ ᏱᎩ ᏂᏂᏩ, ᎾᏍᎩ ᎦᎸᏉᏗ ᏥᎦᎫᏎ, ᎾᏍᎩ ᎾᎿ ᏣᏂᏯᎠ ᎠᏍᎪᎯᏧᏛ ᏔᎳᏍᎪᎯ ᎢᏯᎦᏴᎵ ᎤᎶᏒᏍᏗ ᎢᏯᏂ ᏴᏫ ᎾᏍᎩ ᏗᎬᏩᏃᎵᏍᏗ ᏂᎨᏒᎾ ᏥᎩ ᎾᏍᎩ ᎠᏂᎦᏘᏏ ᎢᏗᎰ ᎤᏃᏰᏂ ᎠᏃ ᎠᏂᎦᏍᎦᏂ ᎢᏗᏢ ᎤᏃᏰᏂ ᎨᏒᎢ, ᎠᎴ ᎾᏍᎩ ᎤᏧᏛᏍᏗ ᎦᎾᏝᎢ.

Should I not be concerned for Nineveh, that great city, in which are more than one hundred twenty thousand persons who can't discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much livestock?"
NOTE: in all the old texts we consulted, we found that Tarshish is spelled quite differently here in Chapter 1 than it is in Jonah chapter 4.
ᏓᏓᏏ dadasi tarshish, as found in Chapter 1
ᏓᏏᏏᏱ dasisiyi tarshish, as found in Chapter 4
ᏓᏏᏏᏱ dasisiyi tarshish, is what fluent Cherokee speakers feel it should be, as it reflects the sound and it contains the suffix "-yi" that in the Cherokee language indicates a place, town, or city; however, we did not feel comfortable in altering the translation of A. N. Chamberlain, and therefore have presented both as in the original but with this editorial notation.
