Viento Northern Loop (1b)

Route 2

I did not even suspect the existence of this loop until really studying the photo below. If fact, this area has changed so much with the construction of the interstate, that I actually had a hard time locating this photo, at first. What was once a very dramatic stretch of old Route 2 has become a rather mundane, straight line with the interstate.

I've been out there. There is old pavement there. Pictures will be up one of these days...

In the photo above, the "Forgotten" Loop is out of sight to the left and Loop #1 is visible past the foot of the bluff.

The screen capture above is about as close to the old photo as I can get in Google Earth. The old alignment of the Union Pacific is visible (very clear on Lidar). The "bench" where this is captured from may actually be an existing, forgotten HCRH loop north of the freeway. It would be the road in the foreground of the photo. The old highway came all the way around this rock formation on the left and I-84 just blasts straight through, so there should be some trace of the highway out there...

At this point, I am not sure if the photos I have from 2013 still exist. If they do, they are not the greatest. It was almost dark by the time we reached the old pavement, and I know they were pretty blurry and murky. I'll need to get out there again this year in better light to take some more!
