PDXHistory.com: Hazelwood Cream Company

Early in the 20th Century, Portland was home to several prominent dairies. The Hazelwood Cream Company, located at 388 Washington (near 9th), was one of the earliest ice cream parlors.

The first Hazelwood Dairy was established in Spokane, Washington in 1889. In 1900, the Hazelwood Cream Company was established in Portland at Front and Ankeny streets where they manufactured and distributed the highest quality milk, butter, eggs, cheese, milk-fed poultry, ice cream and condensed milk.

Hazelwood products consistently won Gold Medals at the World’s Fair in St. Louis in 1904; the Lewis & Clark Exposition in Portland in 1905; the Alaska Yukon Pacific Exposition in Seattle in 1909; and First Prize (Grand Diploma) at the Oregon State Fair in 1915.
