Today's historic photo of the day [Gifford, above] features an impressive view of Cathedral Peak as seen from the Historic Columbia River Highway. I found a newspaper article online from the November 30, 1927 Eugene Register-Guard that actually describes this particular feature and is accompanied by a printed photo taken a short distance from where today's photo was taken. This is a pretty impressive feature of the Gorge and when I saw this photo I just had to share it with you all. We look forward to your comments and hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Austin

"Cathedral Peak stands directly west of St. Peter's dome, across a small canyon. This picture is characteristic of the gorge and contains the elements which go to impress the tourist. It shows the towering precipice and the wooded canyon slopes, and combines light and shadow effectively. It is an illustration of the accessibility of Oregon's rugged mountain scenery, because of the wide, smooth surface highway in the foreground. As the motorist comes down the highway, Cathedral Peak is the first massive cliff of the Gorge which makes a distinct impression upon him. It is familiar to all who have traveled over the famous Columbia River route."http://tinyurl.com/jwsvz2g
