Fountain Slide

This slide was named for a CRH water fountain that was located in the area. I am not sure where, exactly, the fountain was located. I've heard that it might have been on the Weigh Station Fragment, but there are some other locations that vaguely suggest themselves to me, as well. More research is needed!

Looking at Google Earth and DOGAMI Lidar, there are many large slides through this section of the highway, and really, the Wyeth Bench is essentially just one giant landslide itself, which is essentially what the map below is showing.

It's important to note that these are not big, all at once disasters, but slow slides that move only feet, or even inches, per year. When driving on the interstate through here, you can feel the dips where the roadway is slowly sliding down into the river.

Below, the interpretive sign at the Cascades Overlook in Cascade Locks labels the general direction of the slide.
