"When you enter the restored forest ecosystem at Sandy River Delta, you'll encounter an elliptical bird blind, which embodies Confluence Project's commitment to sustainability and ecologically aware artistry. Stroll up a gently curving 150-foot ramp to the bird blind, constructed of sustainably harvested, durable black locust wood. From this quiet spot, you can view birds and wildlife that inhabit the area today as you learn about the flora and fauna-some of which are now extinct, endangered or threatened species-that existed here 200 years ago. The artwork serves as a lasting reminder of the impact humans have had on the environment and a model for a new way to envision the connection between people and the natural world."

maya lin, the confluence project

new york based architectural firm maya lin are currently working on 'the confluence project', a multiple site project in the western USA. lin created a series of seven large art / landscape installations along the columbia river, based on the cultural history of the sites. it encompasses work in over 15,000 acres of state and federal land that is now being restored as an integral part of the project.

throughout these projects lin is carefully redesigning these spaces so that one's first connection is to the landscape itself- giving visitors an immediate and powerful connection back to the land. while also embedding historical and cultural histories into each place giving one a deeper understanding of these sites.
