Lindsey Creek to Cabin Creek

Route 2

From all evidence I have so far, it appears that the original alignment of the HCRH is under I-84 now, until reaching the Cabin Creek Fragment.

Looking at the photos below, the original route essentially followed one long, sweeping curve along the river between Lindsey and Starvation Creek, at least until near where the current existing fragment of old pavement remains...

Clearly, the above photo is mislabeled. This is the west end of Lindsey Lake, and apparently this is a pretty early photo. The highway is the grade above the railroad tracks, with the utility poles, and it does not appear to be paved yet. Later, I can dig through the records and probably get a pretty close date on this photo based on when this segment was paved. This matches what I know about the alignment through there. The Lindsey Creek Inn probably would have been right around the corner, to the left out of the photo, at Lindsey Creek.

The photo below is also mislabeled. It is closer to Starvation Creek and is a later photo, most likely, from after Bonneville Dam submerged Lindsey Lake. In the distance the Lindsey Creek Delta is visible.

"Lancaster’s new highway passed Warren Falls under what is now I-84, crossing Warren Creek on a small bridge, and passing two homesteads, a small restaurant and service station that were once located near the falls. Today, this section of the old road is about to be restored as a multi-use path as part of the Historic Columbia River Highway project."
