This page will be broken down into subpages pretty soon. Since I am stranded without a car, I might as well take advantage of the bus, so between my archived photos and new photos, I expect a lot of new material for this section soon!
"From milepost 0.0 (at Broadway and Washington) a traveler continued three blocks eastward to 4th Avenue, took 4th north to Burnside and turned east on Burnside to 39th Avenue, then turned south to Stark Street. According to Drinkhall's notes [1924], Stark Street (Baseline Road) was the route to reach the Columbia River Highway."

"The Origin of Base Line Road (now Stark Street) can be traced to 1854."
Stark Street Viaduct Interpretive Sign
This was the original CRH route. Until the designation of the highway as U.S. 30 and the shift in the primary route from Stark Street to Sandy Road, this segment was actually the primary route of the Columbia River Highway.
Before this, the primary feeder was considered to be Stark Street, and the highway itself was considered to begin after crossing the Stark Street Bridge over the Sandy River.
