Clarence E. Mershon, East of the Sandy: The Columbia River Highway

Between Warrendale and Cascade Locks, remnants of the old highway are found, including the Moffett Creek Bridge, but construction of the freeway (I-84) essentially obliterated much of the highway itself. Where found, remnants of the highway have been restored and incorporated into segments of the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail [east of Moffett Creek, before that, the trail segment between the John B. Yeon State Scenic Corridor trailhead and the Moffett Creek bridge is an entirely new construction, with old Route 2 mostly buried under the westbound lanes of the interstate].

There were homes and commercial structures along the former highway between Warrendale and Bonneville. [See the pages on The Bonny Villa and the Columbia Vista Motor Lodge.]
