When a new family moved to Tualatin, they were part of the Tigard Ward in the late 1960s. The sister had given birth to a son, who was only 3 months old, and being a new mother she was fanatically concerned about his health. In contrast, Mom had gone through raising 4 kids, and probably had even eaten worms with (at least) Dean.
Anyway, Mom was driving this sister someplace, and the 3 month old was along for the ride. It was summertime, and they stopped at a drive-in to get something appropriate to enjoy on that warm day. After getting a couple ice-cream cones, the sister became distracted. When she turned back to her son, she caught Maxine sharing her ice-cream with the baby. Of course she was very disturbed that some strange lady was corrupting her only child with something that might be harmful to his wellbeing.
She immediately asked Maxine what she was doing to her precious new child. Mom's reply was just common sense, "I want to be sure he grows up normally!" It is a lesson all mothers need to learn......
