Oh, hi Helen. I haven't seen you in a while. I think the last time was about a month ago.
Hello James. Yes, I've been quite busy -- my cousins came to visit from Canada and I haven't had much free time. They stayed at our house for a few weeks and I took them everywhere. They went back yesterday, though.
You seem to have relatives everywhere. Well, surely you must have some free time now?
Yes, I have now. And actually, I'm going to Australia for a three-week holiday with my family.
Really! I'm so jealous. Don't forget to send me a postcard.
A postcard? How about an e-mail with a photo -- would that be okay?
I'd really prefer a postcard because I collect them. I put them on my bedroom walls and like to look at them and imagine I'll go to each place one day. Altogether, I've got about 55 I think, from different countries all over the world.
Ah, I see. Then I'll send you the most interesting one I can find. You'll have to give me your address, though. I've only got your old one, the one before your family moved.
No problem. It's er... 35 Barrington Road, Cambridge.
Barrington - does it have one or two R's?
Two. It's spelt B-A-double R, I-N-G-T-O-N.
I'll need the postcode, too.

By the way, do you collect any particular kind of postcards?
No, not really. Anything's fine -- oh, except buildings. And if you go to Ayer's Rock, I'd really like one of the rock itself. I much prefer pictures of landscapes and nature, you know, in the wild.
OK. In that case, I'll only send you pictures of natural scenery, not modern man-made stuff. Anyway, first we'll stay with my aunt in Sydney, but after that I don't know exactly where we'll be going, I mean which cities we're going to, but I promise to send you a card. Who knows -- I may even send you two!
Great!

What about you, James? What are you plans for the summer?
Well, I've got a part-time job.
A part-time job?
Yes. I'll be working at my local video rental shop. Just five evenings a week: Monday to Thursday, and Saturdays.
I see. How many hours will you have to work?
Well, during the week I'll start at 7 in the evening and work until 11 at night. The weekends are different, though. I have to be there one hour earlier and I'll finish at the same time.
How about the pay?
Well, it's pretty good compared to my part-time job last summer. I was working in a supermarket stocking shelves and that only paid £4 an hour. This one pays £6.50 Oh, and my friend, Gray, worked there last year -- he said the boss and staff were really friendly and he could take some videos and DVDs home to watch without having to pay anything!
Do you think you'll have time to watch them?
I hope so. But before starting the job I do have to go in for one day's training. I've got to learn a few things like how to use the till and how the rental system works. Oh, and I also have to memorize where all the DVDs and videos are located in the shop, but I've already done that part -- I know where each type is.
You do? Okay, then tell me.
Um... all right. Well, as you enter the shop the counter is to the left. But immediately on the right, in the near corner is the section for computer games. It's crowded with teenagers. Anyway, on the left-hand side of the shop along the wall there are the videos -- two types: films videos are cloest to the counter and next to them at the back of the left wall are the music videos. And... um... opposite, in the far right-hand corner are the new DVDs. The older ones are also on the right side, I mean along the right wall, but they're in the middle. Then there are more DVDs along the centre aisle -- music DVDs at the back and children's cartoons at the front, so basically the kid's stuff is facing the front door. I think that's about it.
Well, I'm very impressed. It sounds as though you do know where everything is!
