Le plus-que-parfait
The plus-que-parfait (pluperfect) is the past of the past. We also have it in English.
Formation:
To form the plus-que-parfait, use the imparfait of the auxiliary verb (either avoir or être, depending on the verb), and the past participle of the verb.
Uses:
Use the plus-que-parfait to talk about an action/event that has been completed before another event: both events are in the past.
Use the plus-que-parfait to talk about a habitual action in the past that precedes another habitual action (generally using the imparfait).
