Le subjonctif par rapport à l'indicatif

Some verbs can be followed by the subjunctive or the indicative, depending on the situation.  

• In the affirmative, they indicate certainty, so the indicative is used.  

• But in questions or the negative, they indicate a doubt: so the subjunctive is used.
