Indefinite demonstrative pronouns
Définition:
Indefinite demonstrative pronouns replace a noun or a situation. There’s no specific antecedent. They are also called invariable because they do not make an agreement with anything (masculine, feminine, singular, plural).
Cela:
For verbs other than être, you use cela (written French) or ça (spoken French). You use it to bring up or respond to something already talked about.
Ceci, cela: This/that, or this one/that one.
These are used as objects to indicate things that are not named and that you can point to. They are often used in talking to someone, and in making choices. Imagine actually pointing at two sandwiches in a café, for example.
ceci usually means “this one here”
cela means “that one there"
