Please see a letter below concerning an incident on St Albert's campus. As a community grounded in faith and guided by Christ’s love, we share the following information with openness and a commitment to our Gospel values.
NOTICE TO ST. ALBERT THE GREAT PARISH AND SCHOOL FAMILIES
We want to inform our parish and school community of an important matter and reaffirm our unwavering commitment to maintaining a safe, respectful, and Christ-centered environment for all.
A racial slur was recently discovered on the school playground. This act directly contradicts the values we teach and uphold at St. Albert the Great Parish School. Upon discovery, our Grounds staff immediately removed the offensive message, and further cleaning was completed the following morning to ensure all remnants were eliminated.
We share this information not to cause alarm, but to be transparent and to reinforce our commitment to truth, dignity, and justice. As a faith-based community, we take this incident seriously and are using it as an opportunity to strengthen our shared responsibility in fostering a community rooted in respect and inclusion.
St. Albert the Great Parish School stands firmly behind the Conduct Policy found on page 26 of the Student Handbook, which states:
“The community of St. Albert the Great takes seriously its responsibility to proclaim the message of Jesus especially as it pertains to our relationships with others.
We strongly support the statement of our former Archbishop who said,
'As a community of faith, the Archdiocese of Louisville has a special duty to proclaim the Gospel message about the dignity and equality of all. We are also called to exercise leadership in the struggle against racism and all other forms of injustice.' (Archbishop Thomas C. Kelly O.P.)
St. Albert the Great Parish School will strive to avoid all forms of racial and sexual discrimination and injustice. Teachers, parents, students, or any other affected persons should confer with the Principal when a situation arises in which sexual, racial, or other forms of discrimination may have occurred.”
As a parish and school family, we will continue to stand united against racism and injustice—guided by faith, grounded in love, and inspired by the example of Jesus Christ.
Thank you for your continued support, trust, and prayers.
— St. Albert the Great Parish and School Administration
October 22nd marks the 25th anniversary of the dedication of our current church building. The parish itself is 66 years old and going strong. The year listed on the cornerstone of the previous church building, which now serves as office space for both the church and school, is 1960 which makes that building 65 years old. (the parish started out having Mass at Walden School)
Remember the Y2K scare? We thought that there would be major havoc because our computer systems would not register the year 2000 and beyond. People were stockpiling canned goods and were in survivalist mode. In the middle of this hype, our current church space was being built sending a message to the wider community that our parish was alive and growing. The St. Albert Parish Community was committed and dedicated to building a place whose beauty gives honor and glory to God. So many people committed prayer time, service, and sacrificial gifts to ensure that generations to come would have a beautiful space for the holy sacrifice of the Mass.
A church is more than just a visible building; it is a temple of God, built of living stones that stands as a special sign of the pilgrim Church on earth and reflects the glory of the Church dwelling in heaven. How lucky we are to have such a beautiful space in which to worship!
We will celebrate this milestone during all weekend Masses the weekend of October 18/19. We will also honor the anniversary during the 8:30 a.m. Mass on October 22nd. St. Albert the Great, pray for us!
Pope Leo XIV has issued a heartfelt appeal to Catholics worldwide to dedicate the month of October — traditionally devoted to the Rosary — to daily prayer for peace. His call comes amid intensifying conflicts in the Middle East and Eastern Europe.
The Pope made his request at the conclusion of his weekly general audience on September 24th. He emphasized the urgency of invoking Mary’s intercession in these troubling times: “I invite everyone to pray the Rosary every day during the coming month — for peace — personally, with your families, and in your communities,” the Pope said.
October is devoted to the Rosary in part because the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary — also known as Our lady of Victories — falls on October 7th. This feast was established by Pope St. Pius V in 1571, following a widespread call to pray the Rosary that preceded what he considered a miraculous victory at the Battle of Lepanto.
