February 16 - February 22, 2023

our mission: TO INSPIRE PEOPLE TO LOVE, SERVE, AND KNOW GOD AND ONE ANOTHER.

WORSHIP

Lent

Ash Wednesday

February 22nd is Ash Wednesday and Masses will be at 8:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. St. Albert School students will attend Mass at 9:45 a.m.

Fasting and Abstinence

Both Ash Wednesday and Good Friday (April 7) are days of abstinence (no meat for those 14 and older) and fasting (for ages 18-59, one main meal with two lighter meals which if added together would not exceed the main meal in quantity). In addition, during Lent, all Fridays are days of abstinence from meat.

Confessions: Saturday, March 11th 3:45 – 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 28th 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Eucharistic Adoration: every Wednesday from noon-5 p.m. in the church.

Stations of the Cross: every Friday (including Good Friday) at 7:00 p.m. in the church.

Taize Lenten Prayer Service: Sunday, February 26th at 7 p.m. at St. Margaret Mary

Music during Lent

During the season of Lent you will notice that there is no organ music before or after Mass. During Lent, musical instruments are suggested to be used solely to support congregational singing. The exception to this is the 4th Sunday of Lent, commonly known as Laetare (lay tah ray) Sunday, translated as Joyful Sunday. Laetare Sunday is a little break in our penitential season. Rose vestments may be used and flowers can be used in decorating the altar area. (this year, the 4th Sunday of Lent is March 18/19)

During the season of Lent, there are some chants that are used to set this season apart for us musically. We speak the “I confess” (Confiteor) prayer and follow it with the Greek chant, Kyrie Eleison, Christe Eleison, Kyrie Eleison which means Lord, have mercy, Christ have mercy, Lord, Have mercy. We chant the Our Father. The Lamb of God is sung in Latin – the Agnus Dei. (pronounced Ah nus Day ee) Singing some of our chants in Greek, English and Latin during the season of Lent marks this season with a sense of solemnity.

2023 Black and Indian Mission Collection

The weekend of February 25-26, we will take up the annual Black and Indian Mission Collection. This Collection exists to help diocesan communities preach the Gospel of Jesus among the African American, Native American, and Alaskan Native people of God. Your donations help fund parish-based catechetical programs, support teacher and catechist professional development, encourage vocations to the priesthood and religious life, and create diocesan structures, such as our own archdiocesan Office of Multicultural Ministry, that support ministry and evangelization in these diverse ethnic communities.

PASTORAL CARE

Markey’s Group

Markey’s Group is a gathering of St. Albert Parishioners who share a common bond due to the death of a spouse. The group is named after one of its founding members who saw the need for an opportunity for individuals who have experienced the loss of a spouse to gather in a relaxed social atmosphere for an evening of friendship and sharing.

The group meets once a month on the third Tuesday for dinner and conversation. Our next dinner meeting will take place on Tuesday, February 21st at 4:30 pm. We will meet in the back of St. Albert’s Church and proceed to Bravo’s for dinner at 5:00pm. For more information, contact Mike Ahrens at 836-7847.
