WORSHIP
Upcoming Mass Schedule
Friday, November 11th, Veterans Day Mass at 9:25 a.m. with the school. There also will be an 8:30a.m. Daily Mass on that day.
Mass for our Military
We will be celebrating the courageous men and women who have served—and are serving—our country at St. Albert the Great’s Veterans Day Mass at 9:25am on Friday, Nov. 11. We invite all veterans and current service men and women to attend our Veteran’s Day Mass, planned by St. Albert the Great Parish School’s 8th Grade.
St. Albert the Great Feast Day
This weekend we celebrate our patronal feast day of St. Albert the Great, bishop, religious, and doctor of the church. St. Albert (1206-1280) was a brilliant philosopher, theologian and scientist who studied every field of knowledge possible. Born in his family’s castle on the Danube River in Germany, St. Albert eventually studied at university and then joined the Dominican Order. He soon had a reputation as a great teacher at the University of Paris and other schools. His most famous student was a young Dominican named Thomas Aquinas.
Besides teaching, Albert wrote 38 large volumes (not counting his Bible studies and sermons) covering such topics as biology, zoology, botany, chemistry, geography, astronomy, logic, rhetoric and math. He conducted his own studies of plants and animals and was the first to study the mountain ranges of Europe. His faith and hard work paved the way for a new age of scientific exploration.
The symbols for St. Albert are the crosier (staff) of a bishop, the cap of a teacher and a book for study. He was named Universal Doctor by the Church because of his encyclopedic knowledge and writings and is the patron saint of scientists.
In honor of St. Albert’s love of science and nature, the Adult Choir will sing John Rutter’s All Things Bright and Beautiful at the 10:30 a.m. Mass on November 13th.
Special Collection: Catholic Campaign for Human Development Collection
On November 19-20, our parish will take up a collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. More than 37 million people (over 11% of the population) in the United States live in poverty. This collection supports programs that empower people to identify and address the obstacles they face in bringing permanent and positive change to their communities.
In addition, 25% of the donations stay here in the Archdiocese of Louisville to fund anti-poverty programs throughout our 24 counties. Learn more about the Catholic Campaign for Human Development at www.usccb.org/cchd.

COMMUNITY
Can you help teach English to new neighbors?
The Beginning English class at the Catholic Charities language school (ESL) is in dire need of volunteers for three hours, once a week, from 9:30-12:30. You can volunteer as many days as you want. (Currently there is only one volunteer one day a week.) You will be working with adults who have an urgent need to learn English; how to fill out forms, identify letters and numbers, counting, how to ask questions in English, and other basic language skills we take for granted. Classes are small and are held Monday-Thursday. Christmas break and Spring break are days of no school. We will train you to help tutor new neighbors in English as a Second Language. No experience necessary.
Classes are combined, meaning participants will typically be speaking Kinyarwanda, Haitian Creole, Kiswahili, Spanish, Arabic, Pashto, and Dari. You do not need to know their language, only help them learn yours! Contact Lauren at lgoldener@archlou.org for info.

Fellowship will commence at 1100 am followed by a meeting and Christmas presents with plated lunch at 1245 pm. Each entree will be served with a house salad, rolls, coffee, tea and ice cream for desert. Members and guests are welcome. Please return a completed reservation form along with $20.00 per person by November 28, 2022 to: Pat O’Bryant, 8610 Glenfield Way, Louisville, Kentucky 40241.
