PARISH POST

our mission: TO INSPIRE PEOPLE TO LOVE, SERVE, AND KNOW GOD AND ONE ANOTHER.

MAY 11 - May 17, 2023

Happy Mother's Day

"She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.

Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband, too, praises her: “Many are the women of proven worth, but you have excelled them all."  Proverbs 31:25-26, 28-29

WORSHIP

2023 Catholic World Missions Collection

The weekend of May 20th & 21st, our parish will take up donations for the Catholic World Missions Collection, which supports both the Catholic Home Missions and the international missionary agency, the Society for the Propagation of the Faith. Your donations help the Church’s missionary work, providing monetary assistance for the pastoral and evangelizing programs of the Church in the United States, Africa, Asia, the Pacific islands, and remote regions of Latin America. Donations fund the education and support of seminarians, religious novices, and lay catechists; the work of religious communities in education, health care, and social services; communication and transportation needs; disaster and emergency relief when necessary; and the Church’s ministry to children.

2023 Crusade for Children

Since 1955, the Archdiocese of Louisville has contributed millions of dollars to the Crusade for Children. This community-wide effort changes the lives of children with special needs, and many families in the Archdiocese have benefited directly from the Crusade as have our schools, which receive grants to assist students with diverse learning needs. On May 27th & 28th, our parish will collect donations for this year’s Crusade. Those who wish to donate may bring contributions to Mass or to the parish office. If giving by check, please make your check payable to the parish and put the word “Crusade” in the memo line. Thank you for your generosity.

Mass Schedules

Thursday, May 25th, 9:25AM
The daily mass will not have students attending.

Thursday, June 1st, 8:30AM
The Thursday daily Mass time will return to 8:30am during the school summer break.

EUCHARISTIC REVIVAL

Jesus Christ invites us to return to the source and summit of our faith in the celebration of the Eucharist. The National Eucharistic Revival is a movement to restore understanding and devotion to this great mystery by helping us renew our worship of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist.

Holy Communion

Distribution of Holy Communion to the faithful from the chalice will resume at weekend Masses on June 10/11, in accord with permission given by Archbishop Fabre. In this time of Eucharistic Revival, it is important to focus on our beliefs surrounding the Eucharist. Resources to help deepen our understanding about the Eucharist will be shared in the coming months.

Corpus Christi Procession

SUNDAY, JUNE 11TH, 6:45PM

All are invited to join Archbishop Fabre for the Archdiocesan Corpus Christi Procession on Sunday, June 11, 2023 following the 5:30 p.m. Mass at the Cathedral of the Assumption (433 S. Fifth St.).

The procession will form outside the Cathedral after Mass, at approximately 6:45 p.m. We will walk from the Cathedral to the Belvedere (about ½ mile), stopping at each cross street for prayer and singing. At 7:15, there will be a time of prayer and adoration at the Riverfront plaza at the Belvedere. We will return to the Cathedral at approximately 8:15 p.m. for Benediction with the archbishop, followed by an ice cream reception.

Join us for all or any part of this celebration. Any parish, school, or Catholic organization may carry a banner in the procession. Recent first communicants and their families are especially invited and are welcome to wear first communion attire.

What is Meant by "Real Prescence"?

The Lord Jesus, on the night before he suffered on the cross, shared one last meal with his disciples. During this meal our Savior instituted the sacrament of his Body and Blood. He did this in order to perpetuate the sacrifice of the Cross throughout the ages and to entrust to the Church his Spouse a memorial of his death and resurrection. As the Gospel of Matthew tells us: While they were eating, Jesus took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and giving it to his disciples said, “Take and eat; this is my body.” Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed on behalf of many for the forgiveness of sins.” [Mt 26:26-28; cf. Mk 14:22-24, Lk 22:17-20, 1 Cor 11:23-25] Recalling these words of Jesus, the Catholic Church professes that, in the celebration of the Eucharist, bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit and the instrumentality of the priest. Jesus said: “I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world. . . . For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink” [Jn 6:51-55]. The whole Christ is truly present, body, blood, soul, and divinity, under the appearances of bread and wine—the glorified Christ who rose from the dead after dying for our sins. This presence of Christ in the Eucharist is called “real” not to exclude other types of his presence as if they could not be understood as real [cf. Catechism, no. 1374]. The risen Christ is present to his Church in many ways, but most especially through the sacrament of his Body and Blood.
