2023 Peter’s Pence Collection

On the weekend of August 19-20, the Archdiocese takes up the Peter’s Pence Collection, which supports the Universal Church and the work of the Holy See, including helping Pope Francis with the funds he needs to carry out his charitable works around the world. The proceeds benefit our brothers and sisters on the margins of society, including victims of war, oppression, and natural disasters. Take this opportunity to join with Pope Francis and serve as a witness of charity to our suffering brothers and sisters. PREP

We are excited that it is almost time for PREP to begin again! We are looking forward to welcoming all PREP students and families to the cafeteria for our Opening gathering on Sunday, August 20th at 9am. This will begin our journey together for this academic year. Here is a link to the PREP calendar for the upcoming year: An email will be sent to PREP families with more exciting information at the end of next week.

Confirmation

Confirmation is a beautiful and important sacrament in the life of all Catholic Christians. We want to remind you that information was emailed to families of upcoming 8th graders regarding Confirmation preparation earlier this summer. We are looking forward to journeying with these students as they move towards this awesome sacrament and full initiation in the Catholic Church. Enrollment forms are due to Sr. Sarah by Monday, August 28th. Please also be sure to mark your calendars for all the program dates that were included in the Confirmation information that was shared in June. If you have questions or would like the information sent to you again, please contact Sr. Sarah at syungwirth@stalbert.org or call 502-425-3940, ext. 109

SOCIAL CONCERNS

Loaves & Fishes

August 5th & 6th

The August food drive benefits Sr. Visitor, a Choice Pantry. The pantry is set up like a store, so that means the client is allowed to come and get the items that their family needs the most. Things that they always need are: jelly, pancake syrup, pancake mixes, BBQ sauces, sugar, Vienna Sausage Bites Spaghetti Os, dish detergent, instant coffee & creamer, laundry detergent, saltine crackers, bleach.

Cleaning supplies can not be purchased with SNAP benefits so that’s why they are so helpful. Paper towels & toilet paper are needed too!

Waterstep Shoe Collection

AUGUST 19th - SEPTEMBER 3RD

Our Social Concerns committee in conjunction with our Grade School and PREP Program are sponsoring a Gently Used Shoe Drive for Waterstep from August 19th-September 3rd. Waterstep uses the profits from selling these shoes to provide Water treatment facilities where desperately needed throughout the world. The shoes are resold to small companies who resell in poorer countries. Please deposit them in the boxes in the gathering space or give them to a child in our school or PREP class.

Saint Vincent de Paul

In the Gospel this weekend, the Lord’s voice says:, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” The disciples were afraid, but Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Rise, and do not be afraid.”

Know that in making your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul you are listening to Christ, and helping others not to be afraid.

PASTORAL CARE

The next gathering for Markey’s Group will take place on Tuesday, August 15th at 5:00pm. We will meet for dinner at The Goose (formerly Goose Creek Diner) located at 812 Lyndon Lane. This will be our first visit to the new location.
