PARISH POST

March 23 - March 29, 2023

our mission: TO INSPIRE PEOPLE TO LOVE, SERVE, AND KNOW GOD AND ONE ANOTHER.

WORSHIP

On Sunday, March 26, the Adult Choir will sing an arrangement of the poem, What A Friend We Have in Jesus, by Joseph Scriven. We will be joined by 7th grader, Harper Hornstein who will be our soloist.

Originally written by preacher Joseph M Scriven as a poem in 1855 to comfort his mother who was living in Ireland while he was in Canada. Scriven originally published the poem anonymously, and only recieved full credit for it in the 1880s. The tune to the hymn was composed by Charles Crozat Converse in 1868. Today it is considered one of the world's most beloved hymns by millions of people.

Lent

Fasting and Abstinence

On Good Friday, fasting is obligatory for all who have completed their 18th year and have not yet reached their 60th year. Fasting allows a person to eat one full meal. Two smaller meals may be taken, not to equal one full meal. Abstinence (from meat) is obligatory for all who have reached their 14th year. If possible, the fast on Good Friday is continued until the Easter Vigil as the “paschal fast” to honor the suffering and death of the Lord Jesus, and to prepare ourselves to celebrate more readily his Resurrection.

Confession: Tuesday, March 28th 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Eucharistic Adoration: every Wednesday from noon-5 p.m. in the church.

Stations of the Cross: every Friday (including Good Friday) at 7:00 p.m. in the church.

Palm Sunday

Next weekend, we will celebrate Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord which will lead us into Holy Week.  The blessing of palms will take place at all the Masses.  Weather permitting, we will also have a Procession with Palms at the 10:30 a.m. Mass. Parishioners will be invited to be part of a grand procession that will make its way through the Prayer Garden and back into church.

THE SACRED TRIDUUM

The word “Triduum” comes from the Latin word meaning “three days,” and encompasses the three most sacred days in the Church year. It begins at sundown on Holy Thursday, reaches a high point at the Easter Vigil, and concludes with evening prayer at sundown on Easter Sunday. The liturgical celebrations during the Triduum on Holy Thursday, Good Friday, the Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday are rich with symbolism and flow from one to another in a seamless way. While it may appear as if these liturgies are separate and distinct, they are actually intended to be one continuous celebration that commemorates the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus.
