PARISH POST

August 11 - AUGUST 17, 2022

our mission: TO INSPIRE PEOPLE TO LOVE, SERVE, AND KNOW GOD AND ONE ANOTHER.

WORSHIP

Solemnity of the Assumption

Monday, August 15th, is the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Since this feast day falls on a Monday, it is not a Holy Day of Obligation. Daily Mass for the Solemnity will be at 8:30 a.m.

The dogma of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary was proclaimed in 1950, but this observance has been celebrated on this day from the middle of the fifth century. In 1950, after the horrors of the Second World War, after the death camps, after the first use of nuclear weapons, Christians needed to remind themselves of the holiness of creation and the hope of resurrection. On this solemnity we declare our belief that Mary has gone before us, body and soul, into heaven.

Hail, Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Adult Choir

“The choir enhances the beauty of the liturgy by contributing a musical dimension to the celebration that the congregation alone cannot achieve” (Sing to the Lord: Music in Catholic Worship, USCCB).

The new choir season is about to begin! Rehearsals are held every Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in the church beginning September 7th. The choir sings at the Sunday 10:30 a.m. Mass beginning September 11th. New members are always welcome.

For more information, contact Laura Sullivan, Director of Music & Worship at 425-3940 ext. 148 or lsullivan@stalbert.org.

2022 Peter’s Pence Collection

The weekend of August 20th-21st, the Archdiocese takes up the Peter’s Pence Collection, which supports the Universal Church and the work of the Holy See, including helping Pope Francis with the funds he needs to carry out his charitable works around the world.

Take this opportunity to join with Pope Francis and serve as a witness of charity to our suffering brothers and sisters.

Special Disciples of Jesus Mass

All are welcome!  We invite all Special Needs family and friends to St. Margaret Mary on Sunday, August 21 at 3PM.  We know Mass can be a struggle for many families, so we hope to have a unique celebration together where all feel welcome. The Mass will be shorter and geared towards our children. Light reception to follow.

For questions, more information or if you would like to help in this ministry, please contact Tara Mattingly at 502-690-2851 or tmattingly@stmm.org.

Future dates: September 18, October 16, November 20, December 18

Journeying Together: Synod on Synodality report

Recently, parishes, schools, diocesan agencies, and religious orders facilitated listening sessions to hear reflections from Catholics about their faith experiences. More than 600 pages of feedback is reflected in a 10-page synthesis report. Archbishop Fabre invites all of us to read and reflect on this synthesis and look for ways to engage with your local faith community.  You can find the report at www.archlou.org/synod-2022.

Thank you from Social Concerns! Your generosity is unbelievable! The Loaves and Fishes Collection donated a value of $2,000 worth of food and cleaning supplies to Sister Visitor Pantry!  It amazes us how you continue to outdo your last terrific show of love and concern for those in our greater community. Again, thanks for being GREAT! And thanks to our dedicated volunteers who loaded and delivered cars full of items.

Thank you from Catholic Charities for donating back-to-school supplies to children in need! So far, we’ve given backpacks filled with supplies to 460 children served by our west Louisville outreach, Sister Visitor Center; our refugee resettlement program; and our Hispanic Services program.
