WORSHIP

Divine Mercy Sunday

Divine Mercy Sunday is celebrated on the Second Sunday of Easter.

The Second Sunday of Easter completes the Octave (8 day celebration) of Easter and the readings and prayer texts highlight the mystery of divine compassion that underlies the Church’s Easter faith.

The origins of Divine Mercy Sunday date back to St. Faustina (1905-1938) who reported having visions of Jesus and conversations with him. In one of the visions Jesus shared that "Humanity will never find peace until it turns with trust to Divine Mercy". Divine Mercy is the Easter gift that the Church receives from the risen Christ and offers to humanity.

Jesus asked that the Feast of the Divine Mercy be preceded by a Novena to the Divine Mercy which begins on Good Friday.  He gave St. Faustina an intention to pray for on each day of the Novena.  “On each day of the novena you will bring to My heart a different group of souls and you will immerse them in this ocean of My mercy…. On each day you will beg My Father, on the strength of My passion, for the graces for these souls.”

Please see the link for the complete prayers and intentions for the Divine Mercy Chaplet.  Rosary beads can be used to keep track of the prayers.
