WORSHIP

All Saints Day

Wednesday, November 1st is All Saints Day and is a holy day of obligation. Masses are at 8:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. (school children will attend at 9:45 a.m.) This feast day has been in existence since 844 when Pope Gregory IV set November 1 for a festival in honor of all the saints.

The saints in heaven give us courage that it is possible to spend our lives being faithful to God and charitable toward each other. They model for us gospel living. St. Bernard of Clairvaux said, “Calling to mind the saints arouses in us above all else a longing to enjoy their company.”

“Let us all rejoice in the Lord and keep a festival in honor of all the saints. Let us join with the angels in joyful praise to the Son of God.” (entrance antiphon, November 1)

All Souls Day

November is the month the church sets aside specifically to honor and pray for those who have died. Every year on November 2nd the church celebrates the Feast of All Souls. It is a special day to remember those who have died and to pray for them. On Thursday evening, November 2nd at 7:00 p.m. we will have a special Mass in honor of those who have been buried from our church since November of last year.

Families of our deceased parishioners are invited to attend as well as anyone who has lost a loved one in the last year. Indeed, all are invited to this special Mass to pray for all souls, trusting that God will hear and answer our prayers that the deceased will know eternal light, happiness and peace. At this Mass, names of the deceased from our parish are sung during a special Litany. Other names of those who have passed away since November, 2022 and whose funerals were held at other locations will be spoken during the Litany.

For more information, contact Laura Sullivan, Director of Music and Worship, lsullivan@stalbert.org or 425-3940 ext. 148.

Mass for our Military

We will be celebrating the courageous men and women who have served—and are serving—our country at St. Albert the Great’s Veterans Day Mass at 9:25am on Thursday, Nov. 9th. We invite all veterans and current service men and women to attend our Veteran’s Day Mass, planned by St. Albert the Great Parish School’s 8th Grade.

Happy Anniversary!

October 22nd marks the 23rd anniversary of the dedication of our current church building. The parish itself is 64 years old and going strong. The year listed on the cornerstone of the previous church building, which now serves as office space for both the church and school, is 1960 which makes that building 63 years old. (the parish started out holding Mass at Walden School)

A church is more than just a visible building; it is a temple of God, built of living stones that stands as a special sign of the pilgrim Church on earth and reflects the glory of the Church dwelling in heaven.

We are blessed that in the year 2000, the St. Albert Parish Community was so committed and dedicated to building a place whose beauty gives honor and glory to God. So many people made prayer time, service, and sacrificial gifts to ensure that generations to come would have a beautiful space for the holy sacrifice of the Mass.

How lucky we are to have such a beautiful space in which to worship and praise God. Let us take a moment to give thanks to God and ask for his blessings upon our parish.

Plans are underway for areas that need attention prior to the 25th anniversary of the dedication of our current church building. If you’d like to be involved with this planning, please contact Laura Sullivan, Director of Music and Worship at lsullivan@stalbert.org or 425-3940, ext 148. St. Albert the Great, pray for us!

CATHOLIC SERVICE APPEAL

Do This in Memory of Me

The theme of the 2023 Catholic Services Appeal is “Do this in memory of Me.” These words of Jesus, spoken at each celebration of the Eucharist, resonate in the heart of every Catholic. With this invitation, and strengthened by the Eucharist, Jesus invites us to remember Him as we go forth into the world and respond as His disciples to all that we encounter. The annual Appeal gives us an opportunity to do this by living out our archdiocesan mission statement: to proclaim and live the good news of Jesus Christ.

Did you know that funds raised through the Catholic Services Appeal benefit our community directly? Whether responding to human needs, promoting vocations, providing ministry training, evangelizing, or assisting parishes, archdiocesan ministries and services reach beyond the ability of our parish or any other parish to do this work alone. It is the work that Christ has entrusted to His Church. Through our gifts to the annual Catholic Services Appeal, we are partnering in the work Christ has given to the Church.

Make sure to list your parish as St. Alber the Great (044) !

EUCHARISTIC REVIVAL

Jesus Christ invites us to return to the source and summit of our faith in the celebration of the Eucharist. The National Eucharistic Revival is a movement to restore understanding and devotion to this great mystery by helping us renew our worship of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist.

The International Eucharistic Miracles of the World Exhibit

NOVEMBER 4TH | 4-7pm

NOVEMBER 5TH | 9am-1pm

IN CELEBRATION OF THE EUCHARISTIC REVIVAL EXPERIENCE THE EXHIBIT AT SAINT ALBERT BEFORE & AFTER MASS!

The International Eucharistic Miracles of the World Exhibit is a traveling display designed by Blessed Carlo Acutis. It contains an extensive assortment of photographs and historical descriptions of Eucharistic miracles, recognized by the Catholic Church, that have taken place throughout history.

Carlo Acutis was a kind boy who stood up for kids who were bullied, and did voluntary work with the homeless and poor. He was known as a “computer geek” who loved video games, and had a deep devotion to the Eucharist. He developed a website dedicated to the documented and scientifically scrutinized occasions when the Holy Eucharist changed in its physical appearance, reminding us that the bread and wine of the Mass truly become the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. He died of leukemia in 2006 and was beatified in 2020. All are welcome!

Saint Vincent de Paul

In the Gospel today Jesus says: “Repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.” When God is the center of our lives there is no problem with giving others their due. Through your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul you are helping your neighbor who is hungry, hopeless and frightened to know that they belong to God.

Thank you so much for your generous Loaves & Fishes donations to the SVDP food pantry. They were amazed at the amount of items and it will be greatly appreciated!

Looking for brotherhood and a strong sense of community? The St. Albert Men's Fellowship is just for you!

The idea for the fellowship came about in 2022, when several parishioners began to get together informally to share ideas, opportunities and to sharpen one another in different ways. Over the year, the group has grown, and we're excited to formalize our gatherings at St. Albert, inviting all our parish brothers to come meet other like-minded men interested in forming strong friendships, deepening their faith, and participating in service. "As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another." Proverbs 17:17

Join the Fellowship on Thursday, October 26th at 7:30pm in the Cafeteria for pizza, drinks, and some NFL (Bills vs. Buccaneers) on the TV!

The group will be brainstorming ideas for future social gatherings and ways to get involved in parish life. Answer to the Trivia Question:

In the New Testament, the miracles of ___________ helped to prepare for the institution of the Eucharist.

C. Multiplication of the loaves and fishes; Water turned to Wine at the Wedding of Cana (When the Lord says the blessing, breaks and distributes the loaves through his disciples to feed the multitude, it prefigures the superabundance of this unique bread of his Eucharist. The sign of the water turned into wine at Cana already announces the Hour of Jesus’ glorification. It manifests the fulfillment of the wedding feast in the Father’s Kingdom, where the faithful will drink the new wine that has become the blood of Christ ) Cat. # 1335
