WORSHIP
St. Thomas Aquinas
PRIEST & DOCTOR of the CHURCH
PATRON SAINT of STUDENTS
His feast day is celebrated on January 28th
St. Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274), called the “Angelic Doctor” for his writings, was born near Naples. Against his family’s wishes, he joined the newly established Dominicans and went to study under Albert the Great in Paris. Thomas’ theological writings, especially the Summa Theologica, remain preeminent texts to this day. For all his brilliance, Thomas was also a man of deep prayer who realized that the mysteries of God cannot fully be expressed by words. He contributed the liturgical texts for the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, including the Tantum Ergo, which is still sung at Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.

Environmental Concerns Committee
It’s wintertime, and that means it can get pretty cold outside. When it’s cold and we’re in our cars, we seek to stay warm. We do this by running the engine. But when you idle your engine for more than 10 seconds, there are 5 major negative effects associated with it.
First, it uses up valuable resources, Second, it puts unnecessary wear and tear on your engine, Third, it costs you money. Fourth, it hurts air quality and that’s detrimental to people with respiratory illnesses, such as asthma, especially children. Fifth, well, I’ll get to that one next time.
Stay warm this winter, but please try to limit your engine idling. Maybe keeping blankets in the car can help keep you and your family warm. Remember: you do make a difference, please make if a positive one.
Thanks! Environmental Ernie
Saint Vincent de Paul
In the Gospel today we read that because Jesus spoke with authority his reputation spread throughout the surrounding region of Galilee. As his disciples, we can also speak with authority when we put our faith into actions by helping the poor and suffering.
Have you considered answering the call to serve the poor by joining the Society of St. Vincent de Paul?
