We invite all veterans and current service men and women to attend our Veteran’s Day Mass, planned by St. Albert the Great Parish School’s 8th Grade.

Special Collection: Archdiocese for the Military Services

Our parish will take up the Collection for the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS) November 5-6. This special collection is approved by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops to be taken up every three years. The AMS provides pastoral care to Catholic men and women serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, enrolled at a U.S. Military Academy, being treated as a patient at any of the 153 U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Centers, or who work for the federal government beyond U.S. borders — including those from our own parish and Archdiocese. The AMS does not receive any funding from the government or military and has no parishes from which to receive a weekly assessment. To learn more, go to www.milarch.org/nationalcollection.

Saint Vincent de Paul

In today’s Gospel we find that God is a God of the living, and this is indeed the core of our hope. Jesus has risen and is with us, therefore, at no time should we be without hope for the future. When you give to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, you give hope to your neighbors who have nothing. Thanks for your generous donations to our collection last weekend!

Can you help teach English to new neighbors?

The Beginning English class at the Catholic Charities language school (ESL) is in dire need of volunteers for three hours, once a week, from 9:30-12:30. You can volunteer as many days as you want. (Currently there is only one volunteer one day a week.) You will be working with adults who have an urgent need to learn English; how to fill out forms, identify letters and numbers, counting, how to ask questions in English, and other basic language skills we take for granted. Classes are small and are held Monday-Thursday. Christmas break and Spring break are days of no school. We will train you to help tutor new neighbors in English as a Second Language. No experience necessary.

Classes are combined, meaning participants will typically be speaking Kinyarwanda, Haitian Creole, Kiswahili, Spanish, Arabic, Pashto, and Dari. You do not need to know their language, only help them learn yours! Contact Lauren at lgoldener@archlou.org for info.
