St. Albert the Great Feast Day 

Next weekend we will celebrate our patronal feast day of St. Albert the Great, bishop, religious, and doctor of the church. St. Albert (1206-1280) was a brilliant philosopher, theologian and scientist who studied every field of knowledge possible. Born in his family’s castle on the Danube River in Germany, St. Albert eventually studied at university and then joined the Dominican Order. He soon had a reputation as a great teacher at the University of Paris and other schools. His most famous student was a young Dominican named Thomas Aquinas.

Besides teaching, Albert wrote 38 large volumes (not counting his Bible studies and sermons) covering such topics as biology, zoology, botany, chemistry, geography, astronomy, logic, rhetoric and math. He conducted his own studies of plants and animals and was the first to study the mountain ranges of Europe. His faith and hard work paved the way for a new age of scientific exploration. 

 The symbols for St. Albert are the crosier (staff) of a bishop, the cap of a teacher and a book for study. He was named Universal Doctor by the Church because of his encyclopedic knowledge and writings and is the patron saint of scientists.

In honor of St. Albert’s love of science and nature, the Adult Choir will sing John Rutter’s All Things Bright and Beautiful at the 10:30 a.m. Mass on November 17th.  

Family Friendly Adoration 

Thurs., November 21st  |  6 p.m.

Families and individuals of all ages are welcome!

This holy hour will take place in the church and will include prayers, music, scripture and time for silent reflection. The presence of Christ in the Eucharist is real, true and substantial. We have an amazing opportunity to spend time with Jesus who is physically present in the Eucharist that is exposed on the altar.

Mass for our Military

We will be celebrating the courageous men and women who have served—and are serving—our country at St. Albert the Great’s Veterans Day Mass at 9:30am on Monday, November 11th. We invite all veterans and current service men and women to attend our Veteran’s Day Mass, planned by St. Albert the Great School’s 8th Grade class.

Tuesday Rosary After Mass 

The Tuesday Rosary will continue after the Novena ends. We will begin “after” the daily mass in the church. All are invited to participate and ask for Mary’s intercession. “The Rosary is a prayer both so humble and simple and a theologically rich in biblical content. Women's Welcome Retreat

 February 22 - 23, 2025

Join us for the Women’s Welcome 2 Retreat on February 22 and 23, 2025. This free retreat will take place on the campus of St. Albert the Great.  This is a great opportunity to connect, relax, and grow together with the fellow women of St. Albert. Loaves & Fishes Thanksgiving Baskets

Now Through November 17th

It’s that time of year again! Loaves & Fishes will be collecting food for our annual EACM Thanksgiving Baskets now through November 17th. We are also in need of cash donations or $25 Kroger gift cards. Families will receive a gift card with their basket to purchase ham or turkey. We hope to collect enough food to make 75-80 baskets. Thank you for helping provide a holiday meal for our neighbors in need!

• Instant Mashed Potatoes

• Green beans

• Corn

• Packaged or Canned Gravy

• Box stuffing

• Cranberries

• Fruit

• Cake Mix & Frosting

• Tea/Lemonade (boxed or powder only)

St. Vincent de Paul Society

In today’s Gospel Jesus tells us: “I want you to observe that this poor widow contributed more than all the others who donated to the treasury. They gave from their surplus wealth, but she gave from her want, all that she had to live on."

This weekend the St. Vincent de Paul conference here at St. Albert, will speak about responding to Jesus’ call to assist our neighbors in need. The conference welcomes your donations, as well as new members to join them in this important ministry. And always, always we ask prayers for the work they do and the neighbors they assist; and thank you for your generosity and support!

Red Cross Blood Drive

Sunday, November 17th

The Social Concerns Team and the St. Albert school children are sponsoring our quarterly Red Cross blood drive in the Parish Life Complex on Sunday, November 17th from 8:00am until 12:30pm. Appointments are recommended but not required. For appointments, please call Mary Jo Bird at (502) 552-2093 or email kybirdsnest@aol.com.  Appointments can also be made directly with the Red Cross at 1-800-RED-CROSS or online at www.Redcrossblood.org. Donors who register are also encouraged to fill out the “Rapid Pass” online within 24 hours of their donation to expedite the donation process.

St. John Center For Homeless Men Thanksgiving Dinner Volunteers

Friday November 22nd  |  10am-2pm

Louisville Recovery Community Connection

Spread the spirit of gratitude and kindness this Thanksgiving by volunteering to help serve a meal for 45 men living in permanent supported housing provided by St. John Center. Dinner is provided by the St. Albert the Great Social Concerns Committee. Sign up in 2 hour shifts, 10am-12pm or 12pm-2pm. Contact Gary & Nancy Lange at garylange@gmail.com to sign up. Volunteers are also needed at St. John Center during the busy cold weather months from 7am-3pm in 2 hour time slots. This is a great opportunity to earn service hours!

Markey's Group 

The next gathering of Markey’s Group will take place on Tuesday, November 19th at 11:30am. We are moving our usual meeting time from dinner to 11:30am for lunch. Daylight Savings Time concludes in early November resulting in darkness rather early. We will return to our evening time in the Spring. Our

November lunch will take place at Chuy’s located at 104 Oxmoor Ct. Markey’s Group invites anyone who has experienced the loss of a spouse to join us for socializing and the enjoyment of a good meal. If you have been unable to attend in the evening but are available during the day, this would be a great time to check us out. If you plan to attend the lunch on November 19th, please contact Mike Ahrens at (502) 836-7847 by Noon on Monday November 18 th to reserve a spot.

Special Disciples of Jesus Mass

Safe Environment Training

All St. Albert employees and volunteers who have contact with children, youth (18 and under) and vulnerable adults for ANY length of time are required to complete a two-step process:

• An Archdiocesan approved background check (should be done first).

• Attend an IN PERSON Safe Environment Training (SET) provided through the Archdiocese.

The Archdiocese of Louisville will be hosting a Safe Environment Training at St. Albert on Monday, November 11th at 6:30pm in the Parish Life Complex. No advance registration is necessary. IMPORTANT REMINDER:  No one under the age of 16 will be admitted to the training, this includes infants.
