SUNDAY, OCTOBER 6TH
10:30am MASS
Please join us along with Archbishopb Shelton Fabre for a special Mass installing Fr. Chris as our new pastor!
Pope Francis has called for a global day of prayer and fasting on Oct. 7, the anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel, urging peace amidst rising violence in the region. He will also pray the rosary at Rome’s Basilica of St. Mary Major, seeking peace through the intercession of Mary. Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the Latin patriarch of Jerusalem, has urged the importance of “prayer, fasting, and penance” for peace and reconciliation in the Holy Land. The cardinal published a prayer for peace, (see below) which he has asked Catholics to pray along with the rosary during the Marian month of October.
Prayer for peace
Lord our God,
Father of the Lord Jesus Christ,
and Father of all mankind,
Who in the cross of Your Son
and through the gift of His own life,
at great cost You wished to destroy
the wall of enmity and hostility
that separates peoples and makes us enemies:
Send into our hearts
the gift of the Holy Spirit,
that He may purify us from every feeling
of violence, hatred and revenge,
enlighten us to understand
the irrepressible dignity
of every human person,
and inflame us to the point of consumption
for a peaceful and reconciled world
in truth and justice,
in love and freedom.
Almighty and eternal God,
in Your hands are the hopes of men
and the rights of every people:
Assist with Your wisdom those who govern us,
so that, with Your help,
they will become sensitive to the sufferings of the poor
and of those who suffer the consequences
of violence and war;
may they promote the common good and lasting peace
in our region
and throughout the earth.
Virgin Mary, Mother of Hope,
obtain the gift of peace
for the Holy Land that gave birth to you
and for the whole world. Amen.

Check out out new “Please limit your idling” signs
You may have noticed the new “Please limit your idling” signs placed around our campus. Let me thank you for your cooperation and limiting your engine idling while in the car line. It is so very important for us to do all we can to help the environment. The burning of fossil fuels is the leading contributor to global warming. Please continue to help the environment by turning off your engine while waiting to pick up your children. Remember: you do make a difference, please make it a positive one. Thanks! During the coming months St. Albert The Great Parish will highlight various Social Concerns ministries undertaken by our community. The purpose of these short articles is to help grow awareness of the many ways in which we serve both monetarily and through volunteer hours. This month we share information about Habitat for Humanity.
Every several years St. Albert The Great Parish along with other regional Catholic parishes participates in the building of a Habitat home. This year we are being given that opportunity. We will partner with four other Catholic parishes in the construction of a home through both financial contributions and volunteer labor hours. Read more below...
Habitat for Humanity is a global non-profit organization working in fifty states and seventy countries with a vision of creating housing so that everyone has a decent place to live. Habitat brings this vision to reality by building strength, stability, and self-reliance in partnership with families who need affordable housing. Habitat owners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage.
Habitat was established in 1976 by farmer and biblical scholar Clarence Jordan along with Millard and Linda Fuller. The concept came to life in Americus Georgia. Over the years most of us have become aware of the involvement in Habitat by Georgia resident and former President Jimmy Carter.
Every several years St. Albert The Great Parish along with other regional Catholic parishes participates in the building of a Habitat home. This year we are being given that opportunity. We will partner with four other Catholic parishes in the construction of a home through both financial contributions and volunteer labor hours. This project has been anticipated and has been included in last year and this year’s Social Concerns budget. Our next step will be to recruit a labor pool.
On October 1st we will meet the new homeowners and finds out the location of the project. While we already know the size of our financial contribution, we will find out the needs that exist for the labor pool. After October 1st we will begin a parish wide recruitment process. All of those who chose Habitat as a ministry on their stewardship form last spring were sent a preliminary notice earlier this summer informing them of the upcoming project. Those individuals will be contacted again. We will reach out at the same time to the parish at large. As the labor needs become known, we will inform you of the process for signing up to volunteer. In the meantime, if you have any questions feel free to contact Mike Ahrens at michaelahrens93@yahoo.com.
