Serving Those in Need & Working
for Peace & Justice
The Social Concens Committee is involved with community ministries, organizations and other area churches to collectively help meet the needs of the poor, the hurting and the vulnerable in our community. The committe also helps keep the parish aware of issues related to the dignity of the human person and the care of God's creation and creatures.
The Giving Tree Ministry is a yearly event whereby gifts are purchased by St. Albert families to support locations within Kentucky as they tend to less fortunate children and adults.
Christmas trees with ornaments for this ministry are displayed in the Gathering Space in November and available for volunteers to pick up and shop (receiver's name and their desired items/gifts are printed on back of ornaments).
For more information, please contact givingtree@stalbert.org or Linda Blackman at 502-974-5371.
EACM is a distribution center for Dare to Care and USDA resources and assists local families to place food on their tables by offering a Food Pantry. EACM offers multicultural community services and integration of our multicultural neighbors with English classes, case management, and preparation for citizenship. EACM also offers a home delivery meal program for those interested.
The Environmental Concerns Committee is dedicated to helping our parish and our community “to protect and preserve” the earth by reducing our impact on the environment. We emphasize the need to reduce, to reuse, and to recycle as much as possible. We work with our parishioners and other committees to provide opportunities to do just that. We actively recycle at parish events, such as the Lenten fish fries and the summer picnic.
Through our spokesman, Environmental Ernie, we educate parishioners about environmental issues, and provide ideas to help them help the environment.
We believe in the need to expand our outreach, and seek to work with other organizations and parishes to broaden our scope. In following Pope Francis’s call to action in Laudato Si’, we strive to indeed “care for our common home,” and do all we can to preserve and protect the environment for our children and grandchildren.
If you would like to join in this service of protecting and preserving the earth, now’s the time to act. The Environmental Concerns Committee of St. Albert the Great parish invites you to join us in our mission. Please contact Mark Wehrley for more information (502) 741-3216 call or text, (502) 456-5176 (call).
Electronics Recycling
Take all your old electronics (and batteries too) to them at 2318 Watterson Trail in J-town and they will gladly recycle those devices for free. It’s a win-win, both for you and the environment. Of course, you can recycle electronics there any time of the year. I’m sure you will enjoy your new electronics even more knowing you’ve disposed of your old ones responsibly. Remember, you do make a difference, please make it a positive one! Thanks, Environmental Ernie
Chelsea Boyd is a Louisville native and graduate of Shawnee High School. She is the youngest of four, mother of three, and grandmother of three children. Chelsea always had dreams of owning her own home, but her nerves always got the best of her. She has faced a lot of obstacles throughout her life, and she wasn't confident that she could be a homeowner. Despite all the hardships she's faced, she will soon fulfill her dream of owning her own home.
Chelsea learned of the Habitat Homeownership Program years ago online but never decided to apply until now. She currently lives in the Clifton area and her experience there has not been the best. A while ago, she suffered from a stroke. The effects of that stroke have left her unable to work and unable to do a lot of things on her own. Applying for the Habitat Homeownership Program was the first thing she's done completely by herself in a long time. The thought of not only navigating through the application process alone but being accepted on the first try brings tears of joy to her eyes.
To Chelsea, the word HOME means peace. The firt thing she is going to do in her new home is fall to her knees, pray and thank God. She cannot wait to sit back and enjoy her new home. She will be the first homowner in her immediate family so she hopes that her journey to homeownership will show her childeren that they can do it too.
To the sponsors, volunteers, and anoyone else who will be working on her home; Chelsea is so grateful. She is so glad that you all are choosing to help, because you all could be doing anything else. Thank you all for making her dream come true!

Catholic Charities works with refugees and immigrants to find affordable housing for them when they first arrive to Louisville. Since the housing placements normally involve non-furnished apartments, Associated Catholic Charities is in constant need of providing furnishings of these apartments. St. Albert provides a yearly drive in the Autumn so that parishioners can donate apartment items and clothing to assist these immigrants and refugees. Associated Catholic Charities provides a truck for donations to be placed in. Needs vary from year to year and Associated Catholic Charities provides St. Albert with a list of items needed ( and not needed) each year. Items usually include small furniture, chairs, small tables, lamps, kitchen utensils and supplies, brooms and mops, pictures and decorations for walls, bicycles, cleaning supplies, and usually coats and warm clothing. (Several refugees arrive from places with warmer climates than Louisville).
The Lenten Tree Ministry is an annual gift-giving event which presents the parish with the opportunity of expressing our appreciation to our retired religious for their service and commitment to the Catholic Church.

WaterStep is a locally-based organization that collects gently used shoes and sells them to exporters. WaterStep uses the profits from selling these shoes to provide water treatment facilities to areas desperately needing clean water throughout the world.
At the beginning of each school year, the Social Concerns Committee of St. Albert parish organizes a gently used shoe collection to support the efforts that WaterStep is making to help people around the world get the clean water they need. Clean water is essential to life and we are thankful to have this opportunity to help those in need.
