Serving Those in Need & Working
for Peace & Justice
The Social Concens Committee is involved with community ministries, organizations and other area churches to collectively help meet the needs of the poor, the hurting and the vulnerable in our community. The committe also helps keep the parish aware of issues related to the dignity of the human person and the care of God's creation and creatures.
The Giving Tree Ministry is a yearly event whereby gifts are purchased by St. Albert families to support locations within Kentucky as they tend to less fortunate children and adults.
Christmas trees with ornaments for this ministry are displayed in the Gathering Space in November and available for volunteers to pick up and shop (receiver's name and their desired items/gifts are printed on back of ornaments).
For more information, please contact givingtree@stalbert.org or Linda Blackman at 502-974-5371.
EACM is a distribution center for Dare to Care and USDA resources and assists local families to place food on their tables by offering a Food Pantry. EACM offers multicultural community services and integration of our multicultural neighbors with English classes, case management, and preparation for citizenship. EACM also offers a home delivery meal program for those interested.
The Environmental Concerns Committee is dedicated to helping our parish and our community “to protect and preserve” the earth by reducing our impact on the environment. We emphasize the need to reduce, to reuse, and to recycle as much as possible. We work with our parishioners and other committees to provide opportunities to do just that. We actively recycle at parish events, such as the Lenten fish fries and the summer picnic.
Through our spokesman, Environmental Ernie, we educate parishioners about environmental issues, and provide ideas to help them help the environment.
We believe in the need to expand our outreach, and seek to work with other organizations and parishes to broaden our scope. In following Pope Francis’s call to action in Laudato Si’, we strive to indeed “care for our common home,” and do all we can to preserve and protect the environment for our children and grandchildren.
If you would like to join in this service of protecting and preserving the earth, now’s the time to act. The Environmental Concerns Committee of St. Albert the Great parish invites you to join us in our mission. Please contact Mark Wehrley for more information (502) 741-3216 call or text, (502) 456-5176 (call).
Electronics Recycling
Take all your old electronics (and batteries too) to them at 2318 Watterson Trail in J-town and they will gladly recycle those devices for free. It’s a win-win, both for you and the environment. Of course, you can recycle electronics there any time of the year. I’m sure you will enjoy your new electronics even more knowing you’ve disposed of your old ones responsibly. Remember, you do make a difference, please make it a positive one! Thanks, Environmental Ernie

Catholic Charities works with refugees and immigrants to find affordable housing for them when they first arrive to Louisville. Since the housing placements normally involve non-furnished apartments, Associated Catholic Charities is in constant need of providing furnishings of these apartments. St. Albert provides a yearly drive in the Autumn so that parishioners can donate apartment items and clothing to assist these immigrants and refugees. Associated Catholic Charities provides a truck for donations to be placed in. Needs vary from year to year and Associated Catholic Charities provides St. Albert with a list of items needed ( and not needed) each year. Items usually include small furniture, chairs, small tables, lamps, kitchen utensils and supplies, brooms and mops, pictures and decorations for walls, bicycles, cleaning supplies, and usually coats and warm clothing. (Several refugees arrive from places with warmer climates than Louisville).
Save the date! We are collecting personal hygiene supplies to support Catholic Charities in welcoming and assisting immigrant and refugee families. Your generosity helps provide comfort and dignity to families beginning a new life in our community. Or shop their wish list at https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/V5WLBW8441ST/ref=hz_ls_biz_ex

Coats for Kids
October 25th & 26th
Our Knights of Columbus Bishop Flaget Council is working with Catholic Charities, Little Way Pregnancy Resource Center, Golden Arrow and St. Vincent de Paul to provide winter coats for children in the Louisville area.
These organizations specify how many coats to purchase and determine the size. The Knights purchases the coats and accepts donations to cover the cost. These high quality coats are purchased directly from Knights of Columbus Supreme in New Haven, Connecticut for a cost of $20 each.
Last year through the generosity of St. Albert the Great and St. Bernadette, the Knights purchased 1,500 coats which accounted for 40% of the coats purchased in Kentucky.
Help them reach their goal of providing winter coats to children in our Louisville community! Donate in the back of church the weekend of October 25th & 26th!
The Lenten Tree Ministry is an annual gift-giving event which presents the parish with the opportunity of expressing our appreciation to our retired religious for their service and commitment to the Catholic Church.
St. Albert the Great Parish families purchase small gifts which are given to show our love to over 400 religious from various organizations, including the Ursuline Sisters of Mount St. Joseph in Owensboro, KY, the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth through Nazareth Home, Nazareth Home-Clifton, and the Little Sisters of the Poor.

Baby Bottle Boomerang
Mother's Day Card Sale
The Respect Life Committee coordinates efforts to promote and pray for the sacredness of life at all stages including the unborn, children in poverty, the elderly, the disabled & neglected, and those living in refugee camps, war zones and prison.
The committee sponsors the Baby Bottle Boomerang and Mother's Day Card Sale in support of Little Way Pregnancy Center.
Hildegard House, part of our Respect Life Committee, is seeking volunteers to help provide compassionate end-of-life care. Hildegard House is Kentucky’s first and only comfort care home, offering a loving home and dignity to those who have no one to care for them in their final days.
A volunteer training will be held on Saturday, September 20, from 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. If you feel called to serve, please contact Karen Cassidy at kcassidy@hildegardhouse.org for more information.
In honor of Respect Life Month, we will be hosting the annual Baby Bottle Boomerang to support the life-saving work of Little Way Pregnancy Center.
Empty baby bottles will be located in the back of the church. Please return your bottles filled with donations on October 18/19th weekend. All proceeds will benefit the life-saving work of Little Way.
For over 40 years, Little Way has served the women and families in this community - offering free medical services, love, and support for those facing unexpected pregnancies, parenting classes, baby closet items, and support groups for single mothers and fathers, as well as help for those in need of healing from a past abortion.
Little Way Pregnancy Center offers a beautiful tribute to mothers for Mother's Day; the gift of a Holy Mass Offering.
A spiritual bouquet is offered through a donation made "in memory of" or "in honor of" the Mother's name. The mothers are then included in a Mass offered by The Most Reverend Shelton Joseph Fabre, the Archbishop of Louisville.
Beautiful Mother's Day cards are then provided which can be given to the recipient on Mother's Day. Cards and crayons are provided for children.
Support of Little Way helps provide life saving ministries, including:
Free ultrasounds with pregnancy services & support
Parenting education & baby closet supplies
Journey of hope for post- abortion healing
Abortion pill reversal for those with a change of heart

WaterStep is a locally-based organization that collects gently used shoes and sells them to exporters. WaterStep uses the profits from selling these shoes to provide water treatment facilities to areas desperately needing clean water throughout the world.
At the beginning of each school year, the Social Concerns Committee of St. Albert parish organizes a gently used shoe collection to support the efforts that WaterStep is making to help people around the world get the clean water they need. Clean water is essential to life and we are thankful to have this opportunity to help those in need.
