Pope Leo XIV asked Catholics to observe Aug. 22 as a day of prayer and fasting for peace and justice, particularly in Ukraine and in the Holy Land.
At the end of his general audience Aug. 20, the pope noted that the church will celebrate the feast of the Queenship of Mary Aug. 22.
"While our world continues to be wounded by wars in the Holy Land, in Ukraine and in many other regions of the world," he said, "I ask all the faithful to spend Aug. 22 in fasting and prayer, asking the Lord to grant us peace and justice and to dry the tears of those who suffer because of the armed conflicts underway."
"May Mary, queen of peace, intercede so that people would find the path of peace," he prayed.

On the weekend of September 6 & 7, our parish, together with the Archdiocese, will take up a special collection to support the innocent victims of violence in the war in Gaza.
Funds will benefit Catholic organizations working with local partnerships:
Catholic Near East Welfare Association (CNEWA): providing emergency humanitarian relief, medical care, and psychological support for the sick, malnourished, and wounded.
Catholic Relief Services (CRS): offering food, shelter, cash assistance, hygiene supplies, and care for people’s emotional well-being.
“Our Church mourns the terrible suffering of Christians and other innocent victims of violence in Gaza and surrounding areas who are struggling to survive, protect their children, and live with dignity in dire conditions,” said Archbishop Broglio. “The Holy Father continues to call for a cease fire and for aid to enter the territory, noting with great sorrow that ‘Gaza is starving.’”

10am-1pm Workshop (9:45am Gathering)
St. Albert Parish Life Complex
Presented by Contemplative Outreach Louisville.
Contemplative Prayer is an ancient Christian practice. Centering Prayer is a receptive method of prayer which prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer, in which we closely experience God’s presence within us. The method of Centering Prayer is both a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship. It is not intended to replace other kinds of prayer, but adds depth of meaning to all prayer and facilitates the movement from more active prayer into a receptive prayer of resting in God. Six followup sessions will also be offered. To register, please contact Kristina Hellmann khellmann@stalbert.org or use the link below.
Thursday evenings at 7pm beginning September 4th
