AGM

The Annual General Meeting of CLG Tulach an Iarainn took place last Friday evening with a good mixed attendance of young and old where club matters over the previous twelve months were dissected and discussed.

The day-to-day accounts were presided over and presented in the usual efficient manner by our excellent treasurer Mairead Sheehan and these painted a picture that is in tune with the overall picture of the town and the country ie a difficult 2013 but with renewed hope for 2014. Less income from sponsorship, club Lotto and membership meant an overall deterioration of our financial position by about €5000 from the end of 2012. Careful resource and financial management and spending cuts have meant that the impact of that reduced income has not been felt as keenly as it could have been.

The Lotto account, presented by Fiona Mc Donnell and Donna Buckley showed reduced sales and increased prizemoney given out throughout 2013 which led to a reduced contribution to the running of our club in 2013. There were four jackpots won in 2013 totalling over €20000 in prizemoney. Chairman Denis Tobin expressed thanks to Mick Kearney for his continued generosity in sponsoring the Lotto.

The Deise Draw account was again carefully managed and maintained by David O Brien and he reported a slight decrease in sales but expressed confidence that he could hold the numbers he had. This would continue the excellent contribution of the Deise Draw to the development fund of the club and to paying the ever-increasing county board levy which at this stage makes the temporary Sean Quinn insurance levy look like a short-term fix.

Chairman Denis Tobin, in his address to the meeting gave a report on playing matters and expressed his thanks to all his assistants and fellow board members for their help during the year.

The majority of the outgoing executive members were re-elected with Finn Mc Carthy being elevated to the position of vice-chairman.

Sponsorship

CLG Tulach an Iariann are delighted to announce that McGrath's pharmacy, Tallow are the new principal sponsors of Tallow GAA club. They are a long established business in the town providing service and employment to countless Tallow people over the years and we thank Roger and Helaine McGrath for their generous support.

Membership

Members of CLG Tulach an Iarainn are kindly reminded to renew their membership for 2014. Please contact Lindsay Murphy or any member of the executive.

GAA National Club Draw

Tickets are now available for the GAA National Club Draw with tickets available at €10 from any committee member. While we realise that club members and supporters are hard-pressed at this time of year, the array of prizes on offer is extremely tempting. Trips to Australia, Boston and New York are among the fantastic prizes available. It must also be stressed that every penny of your €10 goes to your local GAA club.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Stuart Barry on his recent marriage to Aileen Courtney from Castlehaven.
