Junior Hurling Championship: Tallow 2-21 Brickey Rangers 1-11.

It was the first time I can remember we played Brickey Rangers in adult competition in a resplendent Tallow venue on Friday last. The two Tom's, Dinny and Brendan had the field looking as nice as I've seen it. Goals washed and painted, the field lined and the grass cut. It's no wonder our boys couldn't wait to get out there and play. The first three minutes had both teams swapping points from placed balls. Mark had two frees and Kevin Henley scored his first from play on five minutes . We lead three points to one and in the next five minutes Evan opened his account on a very solid evening from him followed a great point from sixty metres from Kevin . James Murray was a rock at the heart of our defence and hoovered up ball and delivered it with gusto to our full forward line.

Brian McCarthy had our first goal chance of the evening which just went wide. He opened his account two minutes later with a great catch to dissect the posts. At the first water break we lead seven points to three. Our full forward line were causing consternation to their markers. If big Brian wasn't catching the ball he would break it and Evan was collecting all the breaks. Although Mikey didn't score his intelligent use of the ball was evident throughout. A great catch from Brian and a hand pass out to Donnchadh and he opened his account. A Mark free and a long range Donnchadh strike from midfield had us 0-10 to 0-5 with five minutes of the half left. We closed out the half with an Evan goal. A first time pull from Brian struck the post and Evan reacted the quickest to bury the ball past a helpless cúl barra. The half time whistle blew with Tallow leading 1-11 to 0-6. We were hurling sharply and our striking was crisp and where putting the scores up even accruing to a few wides.

We got the perfect start to the second half when the big Brian got a goal from a ground pull after good work by Evan . Quite in the first half Eoin Condon stormed into the second half and was a fruitful ploy to any of Basher's puck outs as well as scoring one himself and making several. Evan added to his tally with another point and his personnal score of 1-06 all from play delighted the nice Tallow crowd in attendance as well as himself and his teammates. We lost Eamon to red card after hurling very solidly throughout. His other wing man Shaun limped out and was replaced by Noel Condon who turned into Paudie Maher for a minute with the citeóg knocking opponents out of his way to score great point after a powerful run. Ten minutes to go and with the Brickeys finding the net from a penalty , their goal line attempt two minutes after was repelled brilliantly by Basher .Evan finished off the scoring ,one in which he could claim to be the top performer in what was a great collective performance by the Tallow team, leaving the final score Tallow 2-21 Brickey Rangers 1-11.

The Field: The railing at the road end has just been power washed , cleaned and ready for painting. All volunteers men and women, boys and girls are welcome to undertake the same. There is a great mood of optimism of well being within our club at present. Though we no longer have an interest in the Senior Championship our Junior hurlers are flying high and are getting great enjoyment (isn't that what it's all about) out of hurling. Allied to that our Junior footballers and all under age with Cois Bhride. Our three fields (including the Parish one ) are literally full to the brim with boys and girls and believe it or not all fields are fully booked out six nights a week. As ever a huge Ceád Mile Buíochas to all who look after our players no matter what group or age. This is of vital importance and long may it continue. Thanks to you all . A debt of gratitude is bestowed to Brendan Dowd who maintains the playing surface to the highest order.

On the topic of volunteerism our club is fully committed to resurrecting and improving that same topic . As with most clubs it is always a struggle to balance finances of this year with the loss of the lotto due to Covid 19 is particularly poor.

So whilst we are getting great fun and satisfaction from watching our players why no go that little bit extra and join in the banter with a little bit of elbow flexing. Definitely no experience required to paint an iron bar. Doyler and crew will be on hand to oversee matters so see you all on Saturday morning weather permitting and please bring a paint brush. Throw in at 9.30am ,If your good we might even have a cup of tea, Everyone welcome no matter what age group.

Deise Draw is the 26th of August. With covid guidelines the tickets have to be in by the 23rd of August. We need to get motoring on this. Its a vital component for the club. €90 for the year, €15 for the month. €10.50 back to the club of each fifteen. The rest goes to the training fund of Waterford teams. All support needed.

Birthday Greetings to Pat Murphy underage selector and Stephen Pratt senior selector who both have birthdays this week.
